20th-Apr-2007 11:12 am - You Might Want To Cancel That WKRP in Cincinnati Order
liz_marcs: Jeff and Annie in Trobed's bathroom during Remedial Chaos Theory (Homicide_Quote_Work_To_Be_Stupid)
Sorry for disappearing off everyone's radar this week. I got whammed with the flu pretty hard and couldn't even sit upright for extended periods of time until yesterday.

I know I've missed a ton (news-wise, life-wise, blood-pressure-raising-wise), but this little nugget came across my view before I got sick. I meant to post it but...well, the flu waits for no woman.

If you've ordered WKRP in Cincinnati, you may want to cancel your order. It appears that not only has all of the music been replaced, the episodes on the DVD have been butchered even worse than the versions used in the 1990 syndication packages to cover up for the loss of all that music.

Scroll down the Amazon product page and check out the number of customers who've canceled their orders in the wake of the news.

The proprietor of Against Monopoly, who claims to have worked for MTM and on the syndication package for WKRP explains that there's a good chance that the original as-aired series may not even officially exist at this point. (He originally wrote about the legal issues and problems in blog entry 2 years ago.)

Jaime Weinman over at Something Old, Something New received an advanced copy of the First Season DVD and has detailed the artistic butchery that makes the "official DVD release" an even lesser product than the WKRP in Cincinnati episodes you may have taped in the 1990s with your VCR. (If you're interested in seeing how the 1990 syndicated version butchered the original version, this page has the details.)

It appears that bootleg DVDs of WKRP in Cincinnati are about to get one hell of a sales boost.

At any rate, I've canceled my order with Amazon, primarily because if I'm going to be buying a television show on DVD, I want the whole damn thing. As aired. After all, that's what I'm paying for.

I can understand if some of the music had to be replaced, but the press release said era-appropriate music would be used if the rights to the originals couldn't be purchased. Nothing about ripping apart the actual show material on top of it.

I think this is called false advertising, right?

Okay. I know you're all probably sick and tired of me wibbling on and on and on and on about WKRP in Cincinnati coming soon to a DVD set near me. (Yes, I have my Amazon pre-order in because OMIGAWDMUSTHAVE!)

TV Shows On DVD has put up the press release detailing the list of episodes, the list of extra features, and showing the set artwork.

EeEeEeEeEeEeEeE!!!!!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
*note that the sound above is bigger than *flail* or *squee* times a bajillion*

Okay, to be honest the extras aren't all that great. Loni Anderson is the only one doing any commentaries with show creator Hugh Wilson. And that they're doing commentaries only on the Pilot episode and the infamous 'Turkeys Away.'

There are two making-of featurettes. One is on a 'A Fish Story' and the other is on something called 'Do My Eyes Say Yes?' (I don't recall this ep and its definitely not listed on the S1 box set An AnonyMice informs me that this is a line that was uttered by Jennifer, Loni Anderson's character, so it's probably a featurette on Jennifer.)

In either case...as long as I get the full first season, you'll still be hearing this:

EeEeEeEeEeEeEeE!!!!!

To celebrate, here's a 5-minute clip from the pilot. And remember fellow babies...BOOGER!!!!

30th-Jan-2007 01:10 pm - Remix/Redux and WKRP in Cincinnati

Remix/Redux

Yes, I know. I owe people emails (waves!) and I will get to them tonight. Yesterday was much busier than I thought it would be.

Anyway, I'm sure half of you already know that sign ups have started for Remix/Redux V over on [livejournal.com profile] remixredux.

Deadline for sign-up is February 10, so you've got time to think about it before opening yourself up to a re-write. Last year I got the awesome Ballard of Charles Whitman by [livejournal.com profile] nwhepcat which was like my most awesome present ever.

In case you're wondering, that's what prompted the creation of my complete Fanfic Index Post yesterday. I needed at least one central list for whoever ends up remixing me. (Whoever you are, I hope you like Xander, dude!)

Putting together the quickie index was also a fun kind of exercise. I discovered my output has been a hell of a lot higher than I thought it was, coupled with the realization that I'm not nearly as bad about finishing stories as I thought I was.

Fun facts:

  • I wrote 32 stories over a period of 5 years (and think about how long some of those stories are)
  • Out of 32 total listed stories, I have 6 WiPs
  • 2 of those WiPs (Behold, Little Padawan! and Facing the Heart in Darkness) will be finished by February 17 when the [livejournal.com profile] remixredux assignments are handed out because I want both stories available to the remixer
  • Two more of those WiPs (Nobody Never Gets to Heaven and Water Hold Me Down) are slated to be completed this year (barring real-life barriers)
  • Which will leave me with 2 WiPs to complete (No Myth and The Acme Heartbreak Repair Kit) in 2008 — assuming something real-life-ish doesn't get in the way like I hope it will (no, can't talk about it because it's an idea of an idea kind of thing)

I know some people want more detail, and I'll probably add it in at a later date. It was just that I needed a useful and navigateable list for whoever gets me for [livejournal.com profile] remixredux.

WKRP in Cincinnati

Thanks to the marvelous [livejournal.com profile] desoto_hia873, I now know that Amazon is taking pre-orders for the first season of WKRP in Cincinnati.

Yes, I ordered it. Yes, it was for me. I've never pre-ordered anything in my life and I just did for WKRP in Cincinnati. And I will do it for every single season they see fit to release.

No. I'm not counting down the calendar days until I have WKRP in my hot little hands. Not. At. All.
11th-Dec-2006 04:07 pm - *flails* WKRP in Cincinnati DVDs
liz_marcs: S5 Giles researching the killer snot monster (BtVS_Killer_Snot_Monster)
A friend of mine sent me this link from TV Shows on DVD.

April 2007 peoples!

The show that FOX said it could never release due to music rights issues. Some of the original music is going to be replaced, but it looks like they'll be using era-appropriate replacement music. The producers are happy, anyway.

I can't believe that there's a real chance that, at long last, I'll finally get my hands on WKRP in Cincinnati!

*flail*

In celebration, here's a clip from the infamous and ultimate classic: "Turkeys Away"
