Over at GreatestJournal
Look! I still have my GreatestJournal account.
I'm liz-marcs over there as well.
Dearest SixApart:
You drop dead, too.

P.S. — I'm pre-paid for more than a year, so I'm not disappearing right away, just making arrangements for a permanent move to elsewhere, oh, a year from now.

However, I will be from now on double posting in LJ and GJ with an eye towards dumping LJ when my pre-paid time is up. I figure by then I'll have transfered all the contents here to GJ or some other blogging site.
Yes, I'm that furious.

People over there are talking to Support to find out what their stance on this is. There's brief discussion about it in the fandomtossed community.

I'm prepaid for the next 14 months, so I at least have time to decide what to do.
It's good that people are asking questions right up front.

One of my friends just paid for the next year a few days ago. She's REALLY unhappy about that. Mine runs out in August, I think.
Hopefully they'll be nice to us. I know they've had advertisements for longer than LJ has, and no paid accounts, but a huge chunk of their userbase is roleplaying journals.

Yeah, I've been warned. Just how bad is it gonna get? I can't even hope to keep up now.

As far as I'm concerned, it's good for a backup.

I have a Greatest Journal (same name), but it's empty right now.
Truth is, I've never felt at home here, anyway.

Hey, I want to say that I really appreciate your posts about this. Go read what one of my deep-diggers on [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] has discovered about dubyaeffaye:

Yeah- they're religious fanatics. I hope that Six Apart figures out that they've been totally 'jacked by a bunch of domestic terrorists in training.

The number of people I know that are considering a move is going to give me a headache, I fear. Many people, like yourself, and the above noted
I use LJ, more than anything, for keeping in touch with friends, many of them dear, RL friends in other parts of the country. This means I'll need to be keeping up with two journal sites. I can't just dump LJ (an example - a friend whose wedding I was in, is not moving), but I can't just let half my friendslist wander off either.
This is a dilemma to say the least. Regardless, I should probably go see if I can snag my username over at GJ, in case of mass exodus.

Has this whole thing been slashdotted yet?

I have several accounts, so I find myself rarely updating my LJ (I use my Xanga account usually). And ever since I couldn't fix my LJ RSS feed to my other account (and therefore, felt conscious about posting with my RL friend's eyes watching, I just stopped updating altogether. But I was really fond of LJ, and will miss it greatly. Thanks for the GJ link! ^_^ (Can I add you there?)
I hope this issue will be resolved soon. ^_^

I guess it's to be expected -- well, if I don't like it, I can leave, right?

But GJ gets its revenue from advertisers too...
First is just to point out that GJ is substantially funded by revenue from advertisers (it's in their FAQ). I mention it because that's the stick the "warriors" have been holding over SixApart's corporate head.
Second thing is, if the "warriors" don't take an interest in GJ and the other alternatives after all the publicity they've had around LJ, I'd be somewhat surprised.
Unless someone out there knows better (which is entirely possible).

In any case, no matter what, I'll at least keep a basic account if I let the LJ paid account lapse.
One thing's for certain: that $150 I was going to give LJ for a perm account? Not a chance. Ever. Instead, I dropped $40 on InsaneJournal ($30 for a perm account, $10 for expanded) and figured I saved $110 that I would've otherwise spent.
