I Am, It Appears, Easy to Please

God knows everyone on my FList linked to this piece of Guh! (Spoilery for the BtVS comics since it's the Issue 2 cover.)

What d'ya know. It went from Web page to desktop wallpaper in .02 seconds flat.

What? Stop looking at me like that.

Still calling it comics!canon. And I'll wait on other people's thoughts on the series before I plunge into buying anything.

But, I appear to be ridiculously easy to please. The cover honestly makes me squee.

I am obviously full of squee today.

Edit: Squeeee! Lookit what [livejournal.com profile] ponders_life gave me!

[identity profile] aaalex55.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I know. Its hard not to squee. The artwork is interesting to say the least. I'm not sure if it quit resembles NB or not but he still looks good. Honestly, I'm more suprised they would put Xander on the cover with Buffy. I thought those spots were only reserved for JW's favorites like Spike and Willow. To see Xander up there looking all manly and moody (and up front ahead of Buffy none the less!) does make me go Hmmm.

Have you seen the reaction around the buffy verse sites? It ranges from OMG! Squee! To Who the heck is that? To Oh yeah that's the Xander we all know and love! To OMG I can't believe that little back stabbing bastard is on the cover with Spike's woman. How dare he be in Spikes spot! (that last bunch of peeps sure make life funny)

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
I have learned long ago that when it comes to the character of Xander I stay safely hidden in certain corners of the Internet.

Although I have to say one thing for people pissed about Xander on the cover: Dude, let it go already! Fictional character!

Ooo, ooo, ooh! Would this be the same bunch who complained that Georges Jeanty's drawing of Xander's face in a promotional drawing (that also included headshots of Buffy, Willow, and Dawn) looked like he was being made "shipworthy" of Buffy, merely because GJ was trying to draw the characters as having some similarity with the actors who portrayed them (with, admittedly, varying degrees of success)?

Damn that backstabbing bastard Nicholas Brendon for having the audacity to be like most actors in Hollywood in that he was born with a set of genes that make him, for better or worse, probably more attractive than the average citizen! Who does he think he is?

/end of sarcasm

(And really, how is Xander supposed to be "backstabbing" Spike, or Angel, or whoever, simply by being drawn on a cover with Buffy? All the Spander fic aside, it's not as if Xander and Spike were ever close friends, more like "begrudgingly tolerant of, and not really dealing with, each other if they could help it for Buffy's sake," by the end of the show. I'm surprised they're not bitching at Buffy for betraying Spike. God help us if Joss actually lets Buffy go on a date with anybody who isn't Spike in Season 8.)

To OMG I can't believe that little back stabbing bastard is on the cover with Spike's woman. How dare he be in Spikes spot!

Really? I'm glad all my flist are squealing and screaming (in a happy sort of way) about the cover. Being a Xander fan is really hard around boards.

[identity profile] a2zmom.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
See I knew better than to try to pretend I wasn't Joss' bitch. The man just sucks me right back in every time.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
*melodramatically puts back of hand to head*

I am weak like veal. I'm just gonna enjoy teh pritteh for awhile.

People are saying that? Wait, of course, there are idiots saying that. (Especially since we all know it's Angel forever.)

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
BWAH!

I've come down in the camp that I hope there's never any B/X because I think they'd be not-so-great for each other in a romantic way. They're too much alike in some ways, and too different in others.

I'd dig a close friendship though. God knows the two of them could actually use a close friend.

Having looked at the link, finding it an interesting picture of Buffy and Xander, noted quiet easily that neither looks somewhat like the tv characters, and wondering if there is some feelings still being harbored over the end of the series and how some of the actors behaved afterwards.

BtVS

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's more a case that none of the cast really looked the ages of the characters at they were supposed to be playing (NB, for example, is a decade older than Xander, I believe). I think the drawing of NB anyway looks reasonably close to how he looked in S1/S2 — which would put the actor in the same age-bracket as the character.

Although in most comic tie-ins, the comic versions of the characters rarely look all that much like the actors playing the characters. It's SOP for a number of different reasons, some of it for artistic reasons, some for legal reasons, and some for licensing reasons.

The cover honestly makes me squee THIS is why I love fandom. The world needs more things that make you go SQEEE! It just makes life better!

(and I totally agree that it was squeeworthy...not sure if the next part of sekrit project is, but it should be winging its way to you soon)

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
No worries! I figured with the holiday and various commitments you had to shelve the sekrit project for a bit. (Actually, you just saved me from sending you an email. <lj user="kurukami" sez, "Hi!") It'll be fun when done. :-)

[identity profile] faithhopetricks.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
That? is HOTT. Perhaps even HOTTTTTTT.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I am perving on a drawing. Hold me.

[identity profile] bastardsnow.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
My B/X Shipper has given me a hopeful gasp on this. It's... Yeah. Yeah. Yay.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Don't do it. You don't want to do it!

Heeeeee!

Seriously, though. 'Tis niiiiiiiice. Says nothing about the contents, but the prominent placement so soon gives me a slight stir of hope. Not enough to trust JW, no. I'm gonna wait until your reaction.

[identity profile] nycorson.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
see I had the tab up but hadn't looked at it yet... read your post... said okay need to finish reading email and stuff, THEN I will go look at the cover...

~looked~ oooh.. drool... yep wall paper here you come...

See now actually pleased I asked husband to sign up for series to give it a shot.... he does LOTS of comic books.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
See, you've already got a comics guy in the family.

Ahhh, I remember the days of the massive pulls and spending $$$$$$ when I did them. Then I worked in a comics store and got comiced-out.

For now, I'm just going to enjoy the pretty, pretty Xander.

[identity profile] ileliberte.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh WOW. You are not the only one. I think I only follow any Buffy stuff through you, but I like comics and that is one hot piece of art. And yeah, good scooby stuff with good Xander? I might even buy it.

yeah, desktop.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. Yup. Yup.

I'm holding off on buying, still. I'm in wait and see mode for the time being. The cover artist is known, according to [livejournal.com profile] huzzlewhat for her Batman Family covers, especially Nightwing and Robin. So maybe not a shock she did a good Xander.

But you and I know: cover art! =/= interior art. Or actual story content.

But it sure is pretteh.

I swear, I thought Buffy was on the cover with James Dean - LOL!

::is dum::

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Heeeeee!

[identity profile] nocturnalista.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
I was already going to give the comics a shot. This just cements the deal.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Heeee! I'll be reading everyone's reviews. :-)

I'm still on wait-and-see mode.

Well, golly.

Oh my. *fans self*

You know what- I think you may be my barometer for whether I'll bother reading it. If you believe they got Xander right, then that'll be good enough for me. Though I do think my conception of Xander is a bit funnier than yours.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
I'm relying on others as a bellweather myself. :-)

[identity profile] bluegreensmoke.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Ummm...whoa. Well, I can't say I was expecting that. It's probably not too reflective of the actual content but hey, they look pretty! I guess I kinda missed them.

[identity profile] djinanna.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Xander's on the cover! *bounce* Since I probably won't get the comics (money issues, if nothing else), his being on a cover makes me extra-happy.

[identity profile] grey-bard.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Xander. (thud)

What? So I like comics and Xander at the same time! Joss has made me very happy. Also with the Andrew retcon! mmmmm... Now if only the comic series can *half* live up to this!

[identity profile] tessarin.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
It was good to see the speed with which this spread and the generally positive reaction to Xander on the cover.

Unfortunately the summary still has me flip flopping on getting this, like you waiting for the reviews of Xander fans on this.:-)

The cover art has generally been good so far so dying to see the Faith covers.

[identity profile] the-jackalope.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
That is just ALL kinds of hot.

[identity profile] yma2.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It is an absolutely gorgeous cover.

[identity profile] texanfan.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I could so see him looking this way in Facing the Heart in Darkness. I know cover art and the inside of comic often have little to do with each other but it gives me hope Xander won't be shuffled under a convenient rug.

[identity profile] koos73.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I really wondered how you would react.

Gosh, you're so predictable :)

[identity profile] cindywrites.livejournal.com 2007-01-11 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw the cover of issue two the other day. It's delicious. Of course it does exactly Nothing to help me refrain from calling the Heroes character, Peter Petrelli, "Not!Xander."

I followed your links over the comics-canon-jossing issues, the other day. The TWoP link just lead to the main page of the Buffy discussion area, so I missed the actual kerfuffle. I'm happy we're getting this comic series, and probably particularly because of the TGiQ retcon, but that said, I've loved Whedon's works long enough to know no canon is set in stone.

Joss is the first person to admit he'll retcon something if it suits the story he wants to tell. He's done this with Spike's lineage, and has said he'd do it with the slayer line of succession, if he needed to, and plenty of other points of canon. Angel vacillated wildly between a man with a monster inside him that he had to subjugate, daily, to an-almost-separate entity than Angelus. And that's mostly fine with me. It's what he does. It's what he's always done. The up-in-arms nature of fandom is funny.
