Wheee! Finally booked plane tickets for Writercon....

GIP! New Calvin and Hobbes icon from [livejournal.com profile] jellobag. Isn't it cute?

Sooooo, lazy, I swear to God. I only just now bought my Boston-Atlanta-Boston roundtrip tix for [livejournal.com profile] writercon.

Roundtrip for me was $297.60 ($282.60 for the roundtrip; $15 for travel insurance) aaaaand I got window seats both ways. Wa-hoooooo!

Sad but true, Priceline seemed to be the cheapest by $2 of all 10 sites I looked at. And is it me, or do all the online airline ticket sites go to either Expedia or Orbitz?

I'll be arriving fairly early Thursday afternoon (@ 1 p.m. in Atlanta), so who's gonna be around? I'm pretty sure I'll be jonesing for something foodish or coffeeish since I'm on a nonstop with cheap-o tickets.

Anyhoo...I'll be sharing a room with [livejournal.com profile] ponders_life at the con hotel *waves to ponders* I think I might even be beating her in. I dunno.

So, who'll be going on my FList?

I wish I was going but it's a lot more expensive from England.

So you live in Boston? I don't want to stalk you, promise, I was just thinking you could give me some tips on Faith-speak *g*.

I can't wait to hear all about writercon.

Writing Faith is more cadance for me because if I ever did Boston-speak, no one would ever be able to understand a damn thing she said. Heh.

Since Eliza Dushku is actually from Watertown (which is right outside of Boston), her "Faith voice" on the show is actually the best thing to emulate since it's a perfect mix between what would be widely understandable to people who read English while still sounding close enough to native for horse shoes.

Ahhhh, I knew I wrote something that fanwanked Faith's background. I wrote a Shipper Manifesto for Xander/Faith which has some links you can try.

The closest I've ever gotten to writing a "real" Boston accent complete with speaking cadance in fanfiction is The History of Humor in the 20th Century. Everything Faith mentions in that story in reference to her growing up is legit, as in it wouls be real for a working class young kid during the 1980s and early 1990s.

Also, there's a ton of New Englanders on my FList, and most of them are familiar with Boston and the surrounding area as well. Usually, if you post a question on LJ, someone will wander along to answer it.

Hope that helps. :-)

And sorry you won't be able to make Writercon.
