Wheee! Finally booked plane tickets for Writercon....
GIP! New Calvin and Hobbes icon from
jellobag. Isn't it cute?
Sooooo, lazy, I swear to God. I only just now bought my Boston-Atlanta-Boston roundtrip tix for
writercon.
Roundtrip for me was $297.60 ($282.60 for the roundtrip; $15 for travel insurance) aaaaand I got window seats both ways. Wa-hoooooo!
Sad but true, Priceline seemed to be the cheapest by $2 of all 10 sites I looked at. And is it me, or do all the online airline ticket sites go to either Expedia or Orbitz?
I'll be arriving fairly early Thursday afternoon (@ 1 p.m. in Atlanta), so who's gonna be around? I'm pretty sure I'll be jonesing for something foodish or coffeeish since I'm on a nonstop with cheap-o tickets.
Anyhoo...I'll be sharing a room with
ponders_life at the con hotel *waves to ponders* I think I might even be beating her in. I dunno.
So, who'll be going on my FList?

Let me know when you'll be running about up in Atlanta. I have a 4 p.m. flight out of Atlanta back to Boston on Sunday and, like I said, I'll be in pretty early on Thursday. I think there's a casual meet-and-greet on Thursday night that's open to the public (cash bar, if I recall).

I'd bring George the Amazing Lovebird, but he's booked for the week with my parents. He's looking forward to harassing them already with his birdy ways.

Stupid work. It sucketh, but hey, without it we'd all have to go naked...
Wait a second....

Also, clothes help in the cold.

Wheee! I'm finally getting excited about this. :-)

Can't wait to meet you!

Damn. I probably should list the panels I'm doing at some point.
I'll do it after memorial day because I totally have to get together something for the WriterCon archive this weekend. I've been delaying my submission. I have to steel myself for re-reading and editing Cuckoo in the Nest.

Right now, I'm imagining

I can't wait to meet you! And Liz! And see Liz's panels!

Wait, you mean I have to actually speak standard English. Yaaaargh!
Sorry. *giggle* I finally got bouncy when I bought the plane tickets.

Wheeee! This is going to be great! I think we know where the party room is going to be.

Um, Sue may already have mentioned that above.
But I will be there, and I'd love to meet you!

I can't wait to meet you, too.

For lo, do as I say and not as I actually do, for I have *studied* the "how to talk to people thingee in books and have much wisdom to offer, but cannot actually *use* it for myself.
And will be to WriterCon neither this nor next year. *le sigh* Will be at Vividcon, which is 5 minutes on the expressway from my house, hence not needing to fight *both* social anxiety and creeping borderline agoraphobia (which actually, the two are related more than one would think).
Wishing much fun to all who go!

*looks evil*
Although I suspect I'd be sticking around to check out the desert. Yes, I am fascinated by deserts to an unholy degree. It's all trees, trees, ocean, trees, mountains, more trees, more ocean where I am.
Unless you count The Desert of Maine which is surrounded by, you guessed it, TREES! Actually, picking blueberries where a desert meets an evergreen forest is maybe the weirdest toursty thing I've ever done.
And have fun at vidicon!

Then again, who the hell wants to come to Phoenix in July?

Hi, yes, I'm a wimp.

"Buying an apartment?" Is that like buying a condo? (Which can be sort of like an apartment, depending on the building). Congrats on buying property if you are.
no subject
Bying a condo, a flat if you're of a more British persuasion. :)
It'll be payed in around, oh, 45 or something years. Just in time for me to hit the average male life expectancy. :)
If I don't go now things don't look like they'll become easier financially speaking... Gah! Decisions, decisions...

Hopefully, the planes will actually be on time out of Logan and we could hook up at the airport and cut the cab fare.

I just wish I'd been able to get in to Atlanta slightly earlier. I'm taking a red-eye Thursday night and getting in to Atlanta mid-morning on Friday.

I look forward to seeing you, bleary eyes and all.

I can but hope. : )

So you live in Boston? I don't want to stalk you, promise, I was just thinking you could give me some tips on Faith-speak *g*.
I can't wait to hear all about writercon.

Since Eliza Dushku is actually from Watertown (which is right outside of Boston), her "Faith voice" on the show is actually the best thing to emulate since it's a perfect mix between what would be widely understandable to people who read English while still sounding close enough to native for horse shoes.
Ahhhh, I knew I wrote something that fanwanked Faith's background. I wrote a Shipper Manifesto for Xander/Faith which has some links you can try.
The closest I've ever gotten to writing a "real" Boston accent complete with speaking cadance in fanfiction is The History of Humor in the 20th Century. Everything Faith mentions in that story in reference to her growing up is legit, as in it wouls be real for a working class young kid during the 1980s and early 1990s.
Also, there's a ton of New Englanders on my FList, and most of them are familiar with Boston and the surrounding area as well. Usually, if you post a question on LJ, someone will wander along to answer it.
Hope that helps. :-)
And sorry you won't be able to make Writercon.

My tickets from Hartford were maybe $20 less than yours, but I bought them a couple of weeks ago. And it's not a direct flight, because it's frelling Hartford.
no subject
But then I realized that I'll probably be driving into Logan at rush hour, so not so good. :-(
This'll be fuuuuun. Look forward to seeing you again, too.

Someone mentioned something about a Coca Cola History museum?
Heeee. This is going to be a ton of fun. We're going to be in your backyard. Heeee!
I haven't been in Atlanta for-ever. I think I was there something like 8 years or so ago. I ate at one Italian restaurant there which...was an experience.
But the soul-food restaurant was nothing short of awesome, if only because it wasn't food I recognized and it was soooo good. And nothing says love like a full southern breakfast, I swear.

I'm equal parts excited and nervous about this. I have the social skills of a yak, but I'm game to try. :)
