Cryptic fic message

Ever want to strangle a character?

No. Really.

Ever want to strangle them?

If they were real and flesh-and-blood you would soooo kick their ass into next week.

Because they are stubborn. And they insist that of course they're right and you're wrong, even though you're writing the damn plot.

beats Xander with a rolled up newspaper

COULD YOU PLEASE STOP INSISTING YOU'RE HALLUCINATING FOR FIVE FREAKIN' SECONDS AND CONSIDER THE WORLD WITHOUT SHRIMP OPTION, YOU IDIOT!

throws wireless keyboard at stupid Xander and follows it up with wireless mouse

Perhaps my mood would be slightly less disturbed if some people on my FList at whom I'm glaring meaningfully—and they know who they are—didn't start speculating on the kinds of fics we'll start seeing should Kitchen Confidential and/or Bones makes it to primetime.

*eyetwitch*

First person who writes Seth/Xander or Angel/Seeley will die. I will hunt you down and...

smacks Xander on principle

It's 1:20 a.m. in the freakin' morning. WHY AM I STILL UP?!?

The reason most people would offer those crosses is for teh sexy twincest angle. Double the Xander! Twice the creamy filling! I mean, I've seen it done with The Sentinel and just about every other TV show that Richard Burgi (Jim) has starred in... (It's actually kinda hot...but two Jim's are always hot =P)

Yet, there is a surprisingly small number of fics that:

1. Use the 'Xander split in two' episode.

2. Take into account that Mr Brendon is already one of a matched set =) (if you're going for RPS, which isn't really my cuppa..) Although, I wonder, if Nick ever gets his brother to stand in for him in emergencies... (Hey, bro, it's a non speaking part, you just gotta stand next to that stove and stir the pot a few times while looking interesting...)

See? I was making a joke about seeing it when I mentioned it in a response to my last post.

I simply had no idea that this was a real subgenre. Color me surprised. But then again, I really shouldn't be since it makes sense.

I've seen a very small number of fics with the Toth!Stick Xanders remaining separated, but usually the "Replacement" based fics are about someone else getting hit with the Toth stick and not Xander.

I also think I stumbled across a twincest RPS for NB/KD once on LJ (long before I joined). I quickly clicked away because, yeah, not my cuppa either.

I know how you feel about wanting to smack a character. Xander's especially stubborn that way, in fact. You just want the boy to come out and say something, and he takes forever going about it. Have to say my real bugbear is Willow, though. I can never get her to cooperate. She always insists on being so darn . . . Willowy. It's odd, but the two most recalcitrant characters in the Jossverse--Spike and Anya--always cooperate with me. They're downright eager to help. Why is that?

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2005-05-15 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Willow? Willow sucks to write. It took me a month to write her big part in Water, the only part from her point of view in it, because I just can't get a handle on writing the character from inside her own head. *kicks Willow*

Lord knows I've tried with Willow, but I just don't get her. I do okay when writing her from someone else's point of view, but from her own? Not so much.

I usually have no problems with Xander. I think the hardest thing for him is writing fight scenes. On the one hand, you want to write him as somewhat being able to hold his own, but on the other, you need to show that he's outmatched on the strength/speed front without necessarily putting him in the hospital every time he crosses stake with fang. But as for non-fight scenes? Usually he's just fine for me.

I think I've finally cracked it (a lot of it was just me giving in and doing automatic typing to get through it), and it actually does work out better than what I wanted originally. But it was a tooth-and-nail fight there.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around Spike. That character won't speak to me at all.

First person who writes Seth/Xander or Angel/Seeley will die

Heh. I'll give you 3:2 odds that the first story will be Spike/Seth.

[identity profile] skipp-of-ark.livejournal.com 2005-05-15 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
...and the memories of Spike/OtherCharactersPlayedBySMG fics whose summaries I'd skimmed and subsequently repressed just came flooding back, thank you so much.

Kinda surprised I haven't seen any fics with NB and AH's characters from Psycho Beach Party and American Pie. Or Willow/Scott Evil, for that matter. Or is it just that I have avoided those particular Pits of Voles?

(Ooo, Pinata!NB/WrongTurn!ED, anybody?)

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2005-05-15 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Seth/Spike might actually be somewhat interesting in the hands of the right writer. Anything that didn't involved twinslash, kthxbi.

Heh.

In all honesty, I've never actually seen the "crossovers" involving "same actor/different show-movie" fics. So I was kind of making a joke the first time I said it. But...this is a big but...some of the bad fic boards I occassionally visit were talking about this issue, so...hunh...it's a real subgenre in fanfic.

Still scares me, though.

Xander, believe me, you're not hallucinating...If you were hallucinating, you'd...still be in Cleveland, only macking on a hot sexy morally ambiguous lawyer, overseeing the care and training of two Slayers. */blatant fic promotion*

Muses sometimes need to be beaten with a cluebat. *nods*

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2005-05-15 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Heeee.

Hotness would abound on that one. *hmmmmmmms*

I'm only sorry that I've plotted out Water already, because can you just see a sidetrip of Xander going to jail for stalking and a certain morally ambiguous lawyer serving as his defense attorney. *nod nod*

Problem is, Xander in canon never met him so half-the fun of: "Oh, god. Wolfram & Hart are bailing me out. Can this hallucination get worse? And when you're working for evil, could you do me a favor and be a little less good-looking? I'm getting confused." would be totally lost.

Anyway, here's hoping Christian Kane's pilot gets picked up. He's landed a regular role in American Crime on CBS. Whether it gets picked up will be announced Wednesday.

Go ahead, strangle him a little. Faith seemed to enjoy it. :)

Set

I finally beat him up. Yay! Posting new part in a little bit.

Hey, my suggestion was Jack/Seth. You're the one who mentioned Xander/Seth. Although I will trust that someone brought that pairing to mind. Thinking of BC/NB fic, are there any Will Tippin/Xander fic out there? Slash, friends, whatever.

I just got back from checking out your original post, Liz, to be sure my memory was right that you brought it up, but it looks like that's already been covered. I'm going to assume that you're getting the Xander/Seth vibe from other LJs that aren't on my FL.

And, as for continuing the topic, really, I was more interested in the Zombie Jesus angle BastardSnow introduced, not so much the slash. 'Cause, I mean, come on! Zombie Jesus!

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2005-05-15 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
At the time I was making a "ha-ha" joke.

Then I come across chatter one one of the badfic boards I occassionally visit (for research and entertainment purposes) where there was speculating on just this sort of thing. GAFF? Bad Cookie? Some other board? I forget which board and given my busy weekend, I'm not entirely sure I want to look for it. :-P

At any rate, from what I understand, the phenominon is actually pretty common when fanfic writers of genre shows see their favorite actors "crossing over" to other shows, especially if the second show is anywhere near as successful as the first. It's like, "same actor/two roles" is like catnip to a certain group of bad!ficcers.

*headdesk*

You know, just when I thought fandom couldn't get any more weird...

I'm still trying to wrap my head around a comment on Whedenseque that basically said they didn't like the FOX promo pictures because it reminded them that the Buffy-verse actors were actors.

*headdesk headdesk*

So, you kinda thought DB really was Angel and NB really was Xander?

Yeah...I don't get it either.

However, I think I would actually read a Spike/Seth or Spike/Seeley story if it ever got written, just because I'd want my mind to boggle at it.

But Zombie Jesus on a pogo stick...yeah, I would be very on board with any fic featuring that. That concept makes everything better.

Hell, as demonstrated, zombie anything makes everything better.
