This is weird...
First time I've managed to get online almost all week and I can't seem to go anywhere but LJ.
Hunh.
Anyone else having this problem?
ETA: Wow! Who knew all my Comcast peeps were having teh suck on the Internet tonight?
I'm actually on Verizon and it turns out my problem was a particularly nasty piece of SpyWare. God bless Norton Firewall, that was the little bugger that kept shutting down my connection because it didn't like this SpyWare at all.
I can only assume that I could get to LJ because of lack of ads. *scratches head* Seems this SpyWare was trying to redirect information somewhere and Norton Firewall kept stepping in and blocking traffic, hence my inability to go anywhere.
*blows kisses to Symantec, which is located right acrss town*
I ran Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition (rockin' freeware, by the way) and now I'm cruisin' in style.

Looks like Comcast got hit with something. In my case: Spyware was the culprit. All fixed now. :-)

I was wondering if there was a router out on the Internet somewhere because it seemed strange that I could go some places fine but not other places.
Also, it seems like people on Comcast from all over are having "issues" tonight.
As for me: SpyWare. Norton kept shutting it down, but shutting me down at the same time. Thank you Ad-Aware SE for getting rid of it.

See if that takes you to gmail. If it does, you have a DNS issue. Otherwise? No clue.

That said? Looks like Comcast people are having issues tonight. I'm on Verizon, so I'm actually good.

Hmm, I have Comcast as well and I'm experiencing the same problem. I also live nearby so maybe it's something in the greater Boston area? I don't know, but I've been having a hard time getting my email and it's really irritating.

In my case, it was Norton blocking a nasty piece of SpyWare that was trying to shift information to an unknown place. Of course, my firewall went overboard (as Norton always does) and was literally shutting down all traffic except to my designated "safe sites."
One pass with Ad-Aware SE and I removed it. So I'm good now.

I'm on Verizon, so it's a totally different issue. Turns out it was a SpyWare running headlong into the brick firewall that is Norton. Norton won, but failed to tell me what was wrong.
One pass with Ad-Aware SE and I got rid of the SpyWare causing the problem, so I'm good now.

Seriously, in my case I was invaded by SpyWare and my Norton Firewall was shutting me down because this nasty piece of code was trying to send information out.
I don't know if Norton Firewall was simply steering me away from sites with ads (which seemed to be mostly the case, although it doesn't make sense that I couldn't get to Google at all) or if it was because LJ is on my designated safe list. Either way, once I ran Ad-Aware SE and removed the SpyWare, it got fixed.

Comcast esp in our 1912 building sucks, because the wiring is whack anyway, and when it RAINS (in Seattle!) the power and cable inevitably fritz out. Yay for infrastructure....
