Americana Music Awards

Sometime today (Friday), NPR will make the 2010 Americana Music Awards available for streaming.

For a definition of Americana music, Wikipedia has a pretty good overview. It's not quite folk, and it's not quite country, and it's not quite bluegrass. It's kind of hard to explain. Here's some legal MP3 downloads for you to listen to.

I think I know what I'm going to be listening to while I dig myself out of my clutter tomorrow (I'm still fixing shit from my slight depression days...geez it's a mess).

Oh, and did I mention?

I decided to reward myself and I bought me a Bose SoundLink Wireless Wave Speaker for my computer. This bad boy is awesome. Now my computer really is my jukebox.

Thank you!!! This is the first time I've heard this kind of music as distinct from any other, and it's wonderful. It's also the closest thing I've found (ever) to the kind of music my fiddler grandfather and my mother used to play at dances and parties, with Mom on piano "chording" (as she put it) or playing stride piano as accompaniment (as anyone else would put it.) Again, thank you!

I've been turned on to different groups that fall under Americana for awhile now, but I still am hard-pressed to explain it...

FYI: Last.fm has a whole bunch of "radio stations" for Americana and its subgenres (here: http://www.last.fm/search?q=americana&type=tag). Right now I'm listening to the Dark Americana station at work.
