Whoa! Muppet Exhibit at the National Heritage Museum in Lexington!

Okay, what the hell?

The museums in the 'burbs around Boston have apparently decided to put together all kinds of cool spring events.

First it's Charles River Museum of Industry & Innovation hosting the New England Steampunk Festival (information at the link).

Now The National Heritage Museum (part of the Smithsonian Institutions) in Lexington, MA is hosting the Jim Henson's Fantastic World exhibition starting this weekend through to June 27. There also appears to be a whole bunch of events that are tied in to the exhibit.

And...oooooo. They already have Podcasts of the exhibit available.

And because the National Heritage Museum is a Smithsonian, your admission is paid for courtesy of the taxpayer. That's right. Entrance into the exhibit is FREE!

(See this? This right here? This is why I don't mind paying taxes, even on the years I get zonked with an IRS bill. Me love the Smithsonian and All Its Works.)

The Henson exhibit is wonderful. We saw it when it was in Orlando last February. They won't let you take pictures, but you can get in really close and see the level of detail that they put into the props for Dark Crystal.

The National Heritage Museum is not a Smithsonian. It's founded and operated by the Free Masons. Still very cool, but completely NOT funded by taxpayer dollars. And they do take donations.

I'm very excited for the Jim Henson exhibit. I posted about it on my Facebook the other day, but none of my friends there expressed any interest in going with me. *pouts*

Before I saw this, I was actually thinking of posting about it here to see if any of my Boston-area friends on LJ wanted to go. (FB & LJ are different groups of people.)

Let me know if you go and maybe we can check it out together.

I'd love to go (to both exhibits), too! Clearly, I need to be on your Facebook page; if you like, e-mail me your info so I can friend you (anf if you don't, that's OK)

I got to see it when it was at the actual Smithsonian -- it was awesome! They've got the Menahmenah (or however you spell it) muppets, the old commercials he did selling coffee, his truly freaky short film "Time Piece," and the classic segment from Sam and Friends where Sam tries to explain jazz. Enjoy!!!
