This Doesn't Bode Well as a First Post...

Okay, I know that your first post on a new journaling service should be pleasant and happy, but my God I can't ignore this!

Because, you see, I have to spread the news: Mount Washington tried to kill two people!

I knew it! I knew all along that Mount Washington was evil!

According to the Boston Globe two guys rode an avalanche 800 feet down the mountain side when they got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Check out the oh-so-helpful and not-at-all-terrifying diagram from the Globe:

I just have one thing to say about this...

Mountains. Very tricksy things.

Says the person who can lives within easy daytrip distance of Mt Hood and sundry other high pointy rocks.

It's not evil, it's just misunderstood. The avalanche was self-defense.

The Mount Washington auto road was just made for acrophobia, wasn't it? Great view, but it always looks like you'll fall off the road at the next curve.

I've just never been comfortable with the concept of sliding down a snowy/icy hill on two (or ONE, with these crazy kids and their snowboarding these days) pieces of waxed wood... or fiberglass, I guess, these days. That's just... dangerous at its foundation, yes?

When I was young and I went along with all my skiing friends, I was happy to hang out in the lodge and drink all day. Now... I like being inside my house looking OUT at the snow during the winter. Although I may try snow shoeing one of these years.
