I hates kerfluffles...

Don't ever, ever, ever, ever, ever post a new part of Living History when the test list is up in arms in a stupid-ass kerfluffle over JMS and his plot-lines for Spider-Man.

Scratch that: Avoid even looking at the test list when there is a kerfluffle about anything because it annoys the hell out of me.

*headdesk*

Seriously, it's a fanfiction list. Why the fuck is anyone arguing about OT shit when the vast majority of people don't give a whoop?

No. Seriously.

The moderator needs to fucking acting like one and put a stop to the noise. It's getting waaaaaay out of control.

And on another note: Don't even bother trying to be positive about the new Battlestar Galactica series on a list that is overwhelmingly made up of drooling old skool fans.

Duuuuude! I am an old skool fan. I was one of the founders of this goddamn list! I have the entire DVD set with Cylon head in my hot little hands. Acting like I'm pissing on the statue of the Virgin Mary every time I say something positive about neo-Battlestar pisses me the hell off.

I mean, c'mon! The reviews on TWOP from the U.K.--where it's already airing--are uniformly good. They're completely digging it! I'm looking forward to seeing it!

Acting like everyone associated with neo-Battlestar is personally destroying you and killing any chance of your "dream" reunion movie/television series/whatever does not paint you as reasonable people.

And if I hear one more person call Richard Hatch (the original Apollo) a mean little traitor for taking a role in the new series playing a character that's actually really interesting and nothing at all like the character he played in the original series, I will scream.

I mean, c'mon, I am far from a fan of Richard Hatch. I think he's a terrible actor and his "novelezations" continuing the original series made me shudder, but the man's got to eat!

Plus...it looks like a damn good part!

Plus, what the hell is your deal with your hatred of Ron Moore? He's got a good track record. S3 through S7 of Deep Space Nine anyone? Carnivale? And please don't tell me that you refused to watch one or the other because you philosophically/religiously/fanboyishly refuse to watch anything Star Trek or science fiction on HBO. Further, don't tell me that you don't need to watch it because you know without watching it that it sucks.

*screams*

[GETS IN TOUCH WITH MY INNER DAWN] SHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUP!

Can't we all just agree to disagree? Please?

Ever feel like you're the only person in your fandom with a brain?

::grin:: That is why I filter all mail from that list for 'Fic:' and anything with 'Re:' or 'OT' gets dumped somewhere else...

Hey I loved the Kennedy interview, it touches on stuff that would never see the light of day, normally. It's the other side of the story, The 'Joyce' story of sorts. The truth about how parents feel that they never want to outlive their children...

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't even receive email from the list, so I read it via Firefox.

Problem is, with so much noise on the list I tend to miss stories I actually want to read. Or if I find them, I find out that they're 20 chapters ahead of where I last saw them (a big reason why I started posting links to previous parts at the beginning of my post).

Honestly, it's so very frustrating.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_finn_/ 2004-10-20 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
guh. I don't think I could ever use the web interface for the list, there just too much 'force feedback' if you know what I mean, which tends to drown out anything worthwhile. And the web interface is lousy if you want to filter out on certain arguments etc. At least with email, I have somewhat more control as to what I want to see...

PS. Wanna gmail account? =)

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Already have one. :-)

I suppose I should use it effectively....

[identity profile] redbeardjim.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a big reason why I'm content to hover around the fandom fringes. Too Much Crazy. I just don't get what makes people devote so much time and energy to being pissed off.

And yeah, I really liked the BSG miniseries and am looking forward to the new series.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Teh crazy is especially strong these days in Battlestar fandom with the wank spooge running fast and furious.

I just look at all this with mouths agape. I mean, granted before Richard Hatch started his career revival--ahem, Battlestar revival--efforts a few years ago, the fandom was pretty laid back and easy going.

Hatch starts his huge drive and the wankers started coming out of the woodwork. I pretty much hovered around the edges of that because there was no way I was getting involved.

It got so bad a few years ago that I made a joke about hiding Hatch's novelezations in the backroom (I was working at a Borders at the time) that someone on the list tried to find out what store I worked at so they could get me fired. *headdesk*

Anyway, as bad as the Hatch wank was, it's nothing compared to the hatefest spewing from some corners about the new series. I never thought I'd see the day when someone would call Ron Moore a hack.

Then again, I just witnessed someone calling JMS, oh he of Babylon 5 fame, a hack on the test list, so that only goes to show...

Bab 5

[identity profile] keith5by5.livejournal.com 2004-10-21 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't be the ego-driven list moderater per chance would it?

[identity profile] faithhopetricks.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
a stupid-ass kerfluffle over JMS and his plot-lines for Spider-Man.

Oh lord is that STILL going on? That has boiled over on at least 2 email lists I am on that are normally quiet. Je-sus.

*screams*

[GETS IN TOUCH WITH MY INNER DAWN] SHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUP!

((laughs heartily))

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That's because some people got their hands on a preview issue (apparantly).

So be prepared and afraid...

does whatever a spider can

[identity profile] faithhopetricks.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
((rolls eyes))

((heartily wishes she could shove a sock into said collective fandom's mouth))

((just for a bit))

[identity profile] bastardsnow.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
a ha, but you see, you posted to the list, and the kerfluffle has all but vanished. Thus is the power of the Liz (yes, i gave you an article. that much power). Thanks for a great part!

-Mark

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_finn_/ 2004-10-20 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
We can dub her 'The Distractador' and call upon her powers to post a Living History part every time a stupid offtopic rant occurs!

[identity profile] bastardsnow.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. From now on, we should require Liz to have something written to hold on stand by *just in case* we get pissed off at a stupid thread going on. Buncha douchebags.

-Mark

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but guys!

We *already* have another kerfluffle about FB.

*headdesk*

It just don't stop.

WHIIIIIIIIIIIIINE

I think there was peace on the list for less than an hour.

I gotta go to bed...

Argument

[identity profile] keith5by5.livejournal.com 2004-10-21 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Ah the FB argument, let me guess....

His initals wouldn't be KH would they?

GOd, when he is going to get Xander is not a whiny, bitter, arrogant git who hates the world and enjoys being used as a doormat?

He's worse than the people who reinvent Xander as a sex god or the ruler of the universe.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Speaking of Spider-kerfluffle...

I made the mistake of refresing the list.

Oh. My. God.

A lurker just unclocked fired a swear-filled rant across the port bow.

Holy shit...

I can't believe I'm laughing about this.

*breaks out popcorn*

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_finn_/ 2004-10-20 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
woo!

Hate Mogering!

Is it the aussie in me or does anyone else get the mental image of the brit saying "He deserves a damn good mogering!"

It's a remarkably incoherant post, really... Maybe he needs a beta =P

[identity profile] bastardsnow.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, my buddy made that exact same mistake once. Then he picked up Star Wars: Galaxies (MMORPG) and got a pet, and named it Moger. That was rockin'.

[identity profile] bastardsnow.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I can believe you're laughing about it. For Christ's sake, it's funny! Gosh, I'm so glad that nobody on the list takes themselves *at all* too seriously.

-Mark

[identity profile] iyalode.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Gah! Lj just ate my praisworthy review of the Kennedy interview and nods of agreement re: noise of list. It was long and full of "Oh, Captain. My Captain" raves. Sigh.

Thanks for the opportunity of viewing a much maligned character in a different light.

[identity profile] hpchick.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
A new part?

Gah! I just took a peek at the list. Looks like it got a little crazy there tonight.

The list is difficult. I basically only read the entries that say "Fic" in front of them now.

Gonna go wade through the kerfuffle to find your fic.

Test List

[identity profile] keith5by5.livejournal.com 2004-10-21 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Now be fair, you're one of the few on your test list with a brain, don't tar everyone with the same brush as the list moderater and his band of cronies.

With all the noise on the list I'd missed the new LH part! Gah!

*heads off to wade through the kerfuffle*

(Anonymous) 2004-10-21 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Guess I was right: SA is the lesser of the two evils.
At least he was polite. CP = a**hat.

[identity profile] hjcallipygian.livejournal.com 2004-10-21 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
I feel so out-of-the-loop... Who is JMS? What is this test list? I've never even seen any Battlestar Galactica.

At least I know who Ron Moore is. =)

[identity profile] liptonrm.livejournal.com 2004-10-21 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
See, this is totally the reason why I ran away from the test list. Okay, lurked away, but still, the incessant fanboy craziness was just a little too much. Poor Xander, sometimes his fans are worse then his enemies.

And they're having screaming fits about Ron Moore being involved in the new Battlestar Galactica?! That's, that's ... I'm completely speechless. It's like saying they don't like things like 'plot' and 'character development' and 'continuity'. Oh, hold it, considering who you're talking about maybe they don't.

[identity profile] 4thdixiechick.livejournal.com 2004-10-21 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm on that test list, and Living History is the only reason I'm still a member after that last kerfuffle over LH awhile back. (And I've been baaad - I didn't leave feedback). I liked the chapter very much, but how dare you make me like Kennedy, the character everyone loves to hate!

And in other news - the Red Sox won! Woo hoo!!

(Anonymous) 2004-10-21 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Sweet! I actually *liked* Kennedy more than all of the other Potentials combined, so if I wasn't already eagerly anticipating the next LH, now I'm even more so.
