As a Latin freak, I feel obligated to point out that the second part should be "et dona ferentem" because "nivem" is in the singular accusative and therefore the participle should be singular accusative. Or if you really want to paralell the original, you could say "nivis timeo, et dona ferentis".
That said, I agree completely with the sentiment. We had far too much snow where I live last year and I never wanted to see any snow at sea level again.
This winter is going to suck. I fear you are right. A flist friend's cat has already grown a thick coat and has staked out a place in front of the heater another sign that this might be a long hard winter.
