Meeposian Dances of Joy!

Good news: My shoulders and waist are only a little stiff after yesterday's 2-hour kayaking session.

Bad news: Am now starving between yesterday's 2-hour kayaking session and the cardio I did at the gym this morning.

Fantastic news: My local boathouse has announced they're open until at least 8 p.m. until the middle of August. They've actually decided to put up the 8 p.m. closing time early this year. Last year, it wasn't until the middle of May and I had to wait out a 7:30 p.m. closing time in between the 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. closing time jump.

Not this year, though.

You know what that means, right?

I get to go kayaking after work at least twice a week for an hour. *fist pump*

I mean, I live no more than 2 minutes away, and I've paid for the season pass, right?

I figure I'll use the after-work 1-hour sessions for kind of a fitness rowing/rowing for speed thing, and the longer rows on weekends to build rowing for endurance.

Something tells me I'm going to earn back the cost of the pass within a month. Considering that normal rental is $18 an hour, it actually won't be that hard to earn it back even if I stick to only rowing on weekends.

The not-so-great news: In following the flu stories (I'm fascinated by flu pandemics, and have always had a special historical love in my heart for the 1918 Spanish Influenza epidemic.), anyone else slowly convincing themselves they've got flu symptoms? Or is that only me and the other hypochondriacs I work with?

It's amazing. We all work in the medical field here, and we're all hypochondriacs. Just show us the littlest description of the disease and within 10 minutes we can convince ourselves that we're dying from it.

I don't have to tell you how everyone in my office is surreptitiously feeling their throat glands and dry-blowing their noses, do I?

Yeah, the paranoia is a little high. Still, we're all just taking normal flu season precautions here. Just when we thought it was safe to put the Method hand sanitizers back in the drawer, we have to yank them back out onto our desks.

I just love that you used a "Perfect Strangers" reference in your title. Balki FTW.

That is all.

I've been checking my Pandemic Prep kit.

No flu symptoms here. Considering my current medical drama, that would be the last straw.

Yays to all your kayaking news!

Oh god, don't talk to me about the flu. I was just blathering on about it, and have now decided to pretend it doesn't exist. *makes ssshhhhh! hand gesture*

I was sitting in my favorite coffee shop this afternoon and my friend sneezed and looked at me and said, "Swine flu." I immediately washed my hands.

Nope, but I've sure been feeling sorry for pigs. I love them. I think they're so cute, especially baby pigs. I just hate them being the cause of this. I work at an international school where half my students were in Mexico for our spring break, which ended just recently. Also, half the parents fly in and out of Mexico City on business 3 or 4 times a month. I'd be very surprised if we don't have a case pop up on our campus soon. In fact, one of my 6th graders told me her father is in Mexico City right now on business. Many of them have homes there and in Houston.

Yay! Looks like you have maximized your entertainment dollar and, as an added bonus, it will help with your overall fitness. Much as I will miss you at Writercon, you made the right decision.

Keep healthy! I had a momentary panic because I was already sick when the news hit but I realized I didn't have all the symptoms and relaxed.
