Dear Iowa...Welcome to the Club!

Goddamn, Iowa.

Welcome to the same-sex marriage club. And a unanimous ruling, no less.

So that makes 3 now: Iowa, Connecticaut, and Massachusetts will marry gay people...with Rhode Island and New York recognizing those marriages.

Of course, right now Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire all appear to be working on legalization via the legislative route, threats of vetoes from bigoted governors aside.

In short: We're winning. Slow, but sure, we're actually winning.

And because Iowa isn't some coastal state, but a state in "real America" (whatever the hell that means) and dead smack in the heartland...the fight just got a whoooooole lot easier.

*gives Iowa one big ol' hug*

Speaking of which: Massachusetts is totally making hay while the sun shines on being one of the Few, the Proud, the Rainbow-Friendly states. I mean, we gotta get those honeymoon dollars before every state starts cashing in, right?

Check out the multi-colored motif now dominating the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism Web site. Then, you've got to watch the ad. I saw that ad in primetime. On FOX no less.

Bwah! Do we know our audience or what?

*buffs nails* At least we got a head start on Iowa and Connecticut for the honeymoon destination industry.

Plus, we're way more charismatic than Iowa. *raspberries my peeps from that state*

Nah. I'm kidding.

In all seriousness, welcome to the club Iowa. May you discover that people are just people, no matter what, and may you be a lantern of enlightenment for your neighboring states.

*dances*

They can't say it's those East Coast liberal elite and Hollywood now. :D :D :D

Fuck yeah.

This is a real victory.

IOWA!!! Oh, wow... what was that thing they go on about during the primaries, as Iowa goes, so goes the nation? Something like that. I dunno. I expect now we will see much DENOUNCEMENT of Iowa amongst the rabid anti-human-rights crowd, but screw them.

Oh wait! They already have a placard for that one, "activist judges." *raspberries them*

*sticks up middle finger*

It was unanimous bitches. I think a lot of non-Iowans were taken by surprise on this one, because I haven't heard anything about people in Iowa being harassed by out-of-staters claiming that God'll fire and brimestone 'em.

I was kinda torn on which way Iowa would go. I mean, shit, they were the state that basically handed Obama the crown.

\o/ WOO! Things like this fill me with glee, but also makes me so very sad for my own state - Ohio, which passed one of the stricter bans on gay marriage/civil unions. Passed by an insane percentage, which makes me fear my neighbors. -_-

At any rate, congratulations, Iowa! May you teach my state an effing lesson! :-D

Good lord, typos. I need more coffee.

The dollar argument is the one I used when I wrote everyone I could think of when Texas decided to stay firmly in the Dark Ages a few years back. (Not that it helped...though Obama was only 10 percentage points behind McCain in the election, so maybe there's some hope?) Glad to see state governments getting in on it too. Maybe this could be the new economic stimulus package? :-)

I HADN'T HEARD!

Thank you! You just made my morning!

And MA may be prettier right now but when it comes to anywhere but the NE states, we in CT are definitely closer! ;^P

*checks page* Really, the rainbow webpage ought to have a scrolling bar saying "GAY PEOPLE, COME VISIT. WE LOVE YOU!"

Which is awesome.

With Iowa going for gay marriage, Illinois has to recognize it some time soon, right? Right? Quick, take up a collection! Anything's for sale here!

Iowa has a good judicial system and most of us are sane here. The western part of the state is going to go nuts, but whatever comes out of Representative King's mouth, he is not representative of the whole state.

Yay for Iowa. I'm sorry to see that so many other states aren't jumping on the Rainbow Band Wagon, so to speak

My personal opinion is, it's not anyone's business who's 'zooming' who. As long as it's safe, sane and consentual(sp?) it's no one's business but theirs. And if they want to be married and in a committed, monogamous relationship, good for them.

Does this mean I have to stop making stupid jokes about why the Mississippi River flows south? ;)

I read a couple of articles about this. And YES! With fireworks!
