Braaaaaaaains...

Oh, if Pride and Prejudice and Zombies reads anything like this blog post from author Seth Grahame-Smith, then the book is going to be flipping awesome.

My favorite line in "Mr. Darcy's" Valentine's Day mash note to Elizabeth? The one that made me laugh out loud?

My darling, there is no joy in killing without you.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

*wipes tear from eye*

Seriously, if this was the tenor of Buffy/Angel back in the early days of BtVS, I would've been on it like white on rice.

I cannot wait.

Hee!
I cannot wait for this book, either!
And have you heard of Elton John's new project, a movie called Pride and Predator?
(story at http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2009/feb/17/pride-and-predator-to-give-jane-austen-extreme-makeover )

(I guess Jane Austen's in open domain now...)

No! No no no no no!

Not feeling that one. It's too Red Dwarf Beyond a Joke. Space aliens and Austen doesn't do it for me.

Zombies and Austen are much more believable.

What?

Yes, I totally agree!
I'm convinced that someone at Rocket Films saw all the buzz about Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and pulled this crossover out of his ass to capitalize on it.

(No, I'm not at all cynical...)

(Jane Austen pre-dates copyright and there are no royalties to pay to anyone when her work is used, in whatever context. It might be seen as distasteful but there's nout to stop you.)

I'm pre-ordering this book now now now. Golly.

It's a definite must-have for zombie fans.

(And for Austen fans who are zombie fans...)

You know? I miss zombies. Zombies are kind of cool. They're mindlessly destructive...like a force of nature.

I bet zombies are going to make a big comeback. *nods*

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Not away, exactly.

*waggles hand*

Just not so popular as once they were...

But I see a big comeback to popularity.

[identity profile] jetpack-monkey.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm totally for it. It only means good things for me!

[identity profile] stephanierb.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)

That's so awesome. I loved Buffy/Angel just the way they were in early BtVS, but I would've enjoyed that kind of humor from them.

I think I'm going to have to order that book.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I ordered early and managed to benefit from a one-day price drop because the book was on "special" that day.

*rubs hands with glee*

Is it May yet?

I love that Valentine soooooo much!

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so predisposed to love this book, it's a little scary.

I pre-ordered this book because of you! I am just praying the movie actually gets made.

I really have to get that book. Although, saying that, the line that really made me lol in that note wasn't anything to do with zombies, it was to do with Mrs Bennet: "Warmest regards to your father. The usual regards to your mother."

And, on zombies, did you see Dead Set?

Vampire!Jane Austen

[identity profile] 4thdixiechick.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, there is a serious trend going on re: Jane Austen & monsters. I may have to pre-order this one (already ordered P&P&Z)

from http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/22/weekinreview/22schuessler.html

Or maybe plotting delicious revenge. Next year, Ballantine Books will publish Michael Thomas Ford’s novel Jane Bites Back, in which Austen turns into a vampire, fakes her own death and lives quietly as a bookstore owner before finally driving a stake through the heart of everyone who has been making money off her for the last two centuries.

“She’s a woman who has been middle-aged for 200 years and is fed up,” Mr. Ford said. “She finally gets to restart her life and reclaim her literary fame.”

The undead Austen also settle scores with some old literary rivals, though Mr. Ford declined to name names. Another mashup in the making?
