As you can tell from my icon...

In case you're wondering, why yes! I've succumbed to the Internet hype. I am, indeed, buying Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The way I figure it is, I like Pride and Prejudice, and I like zombies.

Yeah, this doesn't exactly tax anyone's brain on why I pre-ordered this puppy from Amazon, does it?

The author, Seth Grahame-Smith, so so excited about how well the book is pre-selling. It's actually kind of cute.

As for my asking about Twitter....WOW! Lots of food for thought there. I'm still reading over the responses.

ETA: For those of you who've been thinking that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was an Internet meme gone out of control, here's the description of the book from the publisher's Web site:

Pride and Prejudice and ZombiesPride and Prejudice and Zombies features the original text of Jane Austen's beloved novel with all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie action. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton — and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers — and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead. Complete with 20 illustrations in the style of C. E. Brock (the original illustrator of Pride and Prejudice), this insanely funny expanded edition will introduce Jane Austen's classic novel to new legions of fans.

I've also been reliably informed by my correspondents that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has already been optioned to be made into a movie.

You know...I'm strangely excited about this. Because I DO WANT! WANT VERY MUCH!

I don't like zombies, but the author's blog makes me want to read the book. Sort of.

I'm really not a fan of zombie stories.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I can understand why someone dislikes zombies.

I fall in and out of love with zombies myself. Right now, I'm back in love. Why? Because you cannot wobbie-fy a zombie. Ever.

Then you'll be even happier to leanr that Io9 is reporting that it has been optioned for a movie!

DO WANT! WANT BAD!

[identity profile] 0x.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
it's real? ._.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It is indeed real.

Yeah, I thought it was a joke at first, too.

[identity profile] 0x.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
This might be a stupid question, but what is it about? Do Elizabeth and D'arcy fight zombies while declaring they hate each other?

Oh geez.

[identity profile] spiralleds.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I heard this on "Wait, wait..." and just grinned.

I'm very excited about this. Very, very excited.

I was going to hold off ordering it until other people had read it, but my patience was simply beaten down because I want to read this.

You know, it isn't like I haven't read the original book, like, OHMIGAWD, a zillion times and I haven't watched the Ehle-Frith mini something like a dozen times. (Not to mention that I own the special anniversary edition. Oh, no. Not at all.)

The only thing that could possibly be better is werewolves attack and eat the entire cast of Wuthering Heights.

[identity profile] spiralleds.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, Wuthering Heights would make so much more sense if Heathcliff was a werewolf.

[identity profile] moooleeesssaaa.livejournal.com 2009-02-17 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
oh i agree. it would make him more likeable even.

Ditto

Wait, Wait... FTW!

I guessed this right on that segment, too. :)

I dunno - even if I were a zombie fan, it looks like he uploaded a file of the book and did his own cut-and-paste.. Talk about robbing the dead. I'll bet Austen has spun so hard she's drilled through to China.

What's his next - War and Peace with Daleks? -- No, that's right, Daleks aren't in public domain yet, he'd have to go with generic aliens.

I'm Not impressed.

[identity profile] doingsoso.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
LMAO, it might just improve the story. I haven't heard of this before. But I am definitely going to check it out, if for nothing more than the novelty.

(I really thought you were joking there for a bit)

[identity profile] beer-good-foamy.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I preordered this something like 10 minutes after hearing about it. There's no way it cannot be awesome.

Also, if this catches on, I'm looking forward to Northanger Abbeynormal and Tess of the D'Ubervamps.

[identity profile] moooleeesssaaa.livejournal.com 2009-02-17 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
yes. yes i would watch both of these.

[identity profile] 4thdixiechick.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
hadn't heard of the book until now. Want. Now!

You can add this to your movie list:

Columbia Pictures is adapting Lost in Austen, a British time-traveling TV miniseries about a modern-day woman who finds herself living the life of a fictional heroine, for the big screen, Variety reported. Sam Mendes (Revolutionary Road) is a producer.

The film will center on Amanda, an ardent Jane Austen fan, who lives in present-day New York with her boyfriend, until she finds she's swapped places with Austen's fictional creation Elizabeth Bennet.
I guess Elizabeth Bennet is still a hot commodity 200 years after she was created.

There must be something in the air. There's now a movie in the works called Pride and Predator!?!

Yeah it's me again - I just found out that someone named Michael Thomas Ford has written a book called Jane Bites Back: The novel presents an undead Jane Austen, frustrated by nearly 200 years of writer's block and 116 rejections of an unpublished novel she finished just before turning into a vampire; she's becoming increasingly irritated that the rest of the world seems to be getting rich and famous off of her works and her life.

There really must be something in the air that's very contagious. What'll pop up next?
