GOTV: Best Celebrity Ad Ever, or GREATESTCelebrity Ad Ever?

snurched from [livejournal.com profile] ontd_political

A little reminder to not just go out and vote, but to also register to vote. The deadline is closing fast. Depending on your state, you may only have mere days to get it done, or a couple of weeks.

Really, it's a rather clever PSA.

Aside from the Google Maps portal cited in the PSA, which will give you the rules and regs applicable to your home state for voter registration, here are a few more sites you should check out:

The National Secretaries of State has a database that'll link you right to your home state to figure out the voting rules and regs.

You can also register to vote online via Roll Call.

The American Democracy Institute allows you to find out if you are registered to vote. You may scoff, but don't assume you are. Some states are "purging" voter lists and you may show up at the polls to find out that you're SoL.

Also, Obama for America also has a online voter registration check.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to crawl back into bed and take a long nap. Again. This headcold is the suxX0rs.

I had to beat the amazingly slow-loading state website to find out yesterday, but sure enough, I'm registered to vote. Unfortunately, it won't tell me where my polling place is. It notes unhelpfully that "many Texas newspapers" publish lists of polling places shortly before the election. You'd think this would be the kind of data they'd want to make easy to find.

Yikes! You'd think.

The Massachusetts Web site for the secretary of state all but gives you a Google Map to your polling place.

Then again, even though this state is going very blue on November 4, I guarantee that I'll have to be in line before the doors open for voting at 7 a.m. if I'm to have any hope of getting to work on time.

THAT. Is fucking awesome.

Thanks.

That was great. I sent in my paperwork a few weeks back via Rock the Vote, so I'm trusting my new home state to get it all processed. Now off to share the vid. *g*

Yay!

I think the biggest issue is that a lot of people on my FList have moved this year (like you, I believe) and they might not be sure of their registration status. Going by my FList, that's probably the bigger issue than not even bothering to vote.

Ironically, it was the "Community Organizer" slur that got me to the Obama website to give money - and the site, of course, had info on how to register to vote, so I took care of my paperwork.

Dude, have to give you props for posting this. I actually went for a couple years awhile back trying to figure out if I was actually registered or not -- or if trying to register in my home state would get me yelled at for fraud. Because I honestly COULD NOT remember if I'd registered in Florida in college or not.

Yeah, I got it all worked out eventually, but man, it would've been easier with links like you got up there.

You're welcome!

It seems like a lot of people on my FList have moved this year, so I figured a few extra links would be helpful.

Hell yeah. Moving: plays hell on everything.

I'm just glad my planned switch to Virginia isn't happening until after the election, this time.
