Anonymous Commenting is Now Hearby Banned

You know, my little snarky post about the "Boobiegate" thing wasn't even that snarky or flame-y.

Yet I've been pestered by Anonymous Trolls since I posted the damn thing. Not a lot, just more than usual. Know what? I don't have the patience this week because I've got RL shit going on.

Because I don't feel like going through all the bullshit, I've now mass deleted all anonymous comments that I've received over the past day or so from both email and this LJ. I've deleted them unread, because if you have to be anonymous, I can't be bothered.

In short: I don't owe you shit if you don't sign your name.

I've also forbidden anonymous commenting. Want to say something? Get an LJ account, or use Open ID, otherwise, you're shit of luck.

I apologize to all the nice Annonymice who've dropped by over the years and were willing to put up with being screened. I apologize to the polite Annonymice and I'm sorry to see your comments go.

I may, at some point in the future, re-allow screened anonymous comments.

Just do me a favor and and don't ask me today when I'll be doing that. Because if you ask me now, you'll get "never" as an answer.

I'm sorry people are being idiots. I appreciate your commentary. Thank you for doing it.

I shut off receiving email from that post *ponders* early yesterday morning? I think? Because of the onslaught (went to bed with 20 messages, woke up to 98 messages).

Anyway, all of the anonymous messages were tucked into my "View Recent Comments." I've just pretty much had enough.

I had everything from being called "A judgmental bitch" to pseudo-intellectual bullshit on why I'm a killjoy for not letting everyone do what they want. Nothing threatening, at least, but frankly, I just can't be bothered if they can't even sign their names.

There are just way too many dorks in this world.

One of the big things that attracted me to LJ was the control we have over what we are forced to read. On a public bulletin board the Trolls can take over. Note here.

Delete away.

Your journal. Your rules. Well, yours and the Russian Overlords, but that's another llama for another drama.

I banned all non-friends posting last week because of some BS. Something in the stars I think. ;P

I'm sorry people were being jerks and you had to disallow anonymous commenting, but I'm glad you were able to do it. *Squish*

The utter assheadedness of some comments on that subject are... impressive. As in, when one walks through the barnyard on a wet day, impressive.

*huggles you*, just cos it sounds like you're having the kind of day where extra (virtual) hugs would be of the good.

I don't blame you a bit for turning off anonymice. It isn't like it's at all difficult to get an OpenID set up, even if someone doesn't want to make an LJ.

Ridiculous!

After all, flaming is like groping. I don't mind, as long as you stay still long enough for me to punch you in the face. ;o)

More than Boobiegate (what a charming appellation!), I'm currently seething at a Mr. John McCain and his remarks against the equal pay bill in the Senate. Gosh, does he really think I need more education and training to have the earning potential of my male peers?

And they pretty much prove the point that it is "all about them" and if we disagree then we are to be intimidated and harassed, online as it is in real life... and yet they still don't get/see it?

amazing, eh?

Ding-ding-ding!

I've written about religion. I've written about politics. I've written about unpopular fannish opinions. I've written about the LJ-Stupido-Olympics.

And whenever this LJ has gotten slammed, I've gotten a few anony-trolls, but usually no more than 2 or 3 (in posts that got more than 500 responses, no less).

In the past 36 hours (I didn't get any anonymous comments before I stopped receiving email notices from that entry), almost a dozen.

All because they don't want to fucking understand why there are women and men who have a honking big problem with this. They want to know why they can't just walk up and ask to grab one of my tits.

I thought I was incensed before....

In short: I don't owe you shit if you don't sign your name.

That is my policy as well. People should have the balls to back up their criticisms... otherwise they shouldn't bother making them.

I've been there. Having your lj overrun by flaming trolls is made of suck.

[identity profile] ffutures.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I turned off anonymous comments about a week after I began my journal. I've never felt any urge to switch it back on, especially since the spammers discovered Livejournal.

Good. Serves 'em right. They deserve the Giant Hamster of Disapproval.

I'm sorry that your post attracted boobs and not the female, attached kind. For some reason, well thought out intelligent posts tends to bring them out in droves.

[identity profile] doingsoso.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
I've never really understood the anonymous thing myself. Sigh. Maybe I'm just dense.

A lot of LJers talk big about freedom of speech until someone says something they don't like, and then the abuse starts. So much for their vaunted love for freedom of speech.

I think everyone is entitled to their opinion. I may not always agree. It would be a dull world if everyone agreed about everything. But verbal and written attacks are not necessary.

If they truly believed in the "freedom of speech" they tout so much, they would not be "punishing" people in that way for disagreeing and stating their opinions.

It doesn't make any sense to me, I can't relate to that way of thinking.

Yeah, now that Open ID exists, there's little point to letting anything entirely anonymous through these days.

The irony of these guys supporting public groping refusing to MAN UP and identify themselves in comments with Open ID, actually logging on, or providing links to email or blog -- good gravy.

[identity profile] faithhopetricks.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
You know, my little snarky post about the "Boobiegate" thing wasn't even that snarky or flame-y.

Noooo, it totally wasn't.

I turned off anon commenting quite a while ago -- I forget when. I think it was a tossup which were more annoying, the spammers or the cowardly flamers. I'm sorry you had to deal even minimally with those idiots.

[identity profile] shadowkat67.livejournal.com 2008-04-27 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, I tried doing that once on my own journal and ended up losing my own comments whenever I posted from work or computers that were not my own (such as my parents while visiting.)
I also lost friends, who had done the same thing accidentally, because they didn't log in.

So...I switched to screening all anonymous comments. And locking posts that could attract trolls. That was the only thing that worked. Annoying, but effective.
