Feel the love...

If you ain't watching Reaper, why the hell not?

[How much do I love that they showed us the fookin' gun in the very first episode? Heeee!]

It was said straight out: The Devil can't actually own a soul unless the owner hands over the keys.

The Devil can, however, blackmail you into be one of the most incompetent bounty hunters to ever grace the earth.

Heeee!

I feel big love all around for this show. No idea if they can keep up the quirkyness, but I'll hang on for the ride.

Frankly, I give this show a short lifespan. It's up against House. Plus, I think it's too quirky to live, sort of like Dead Like Me.

Ray Wise was the perfect choice for the Devil, and unfortunately, I have to agree with you on its probable longevity. That said, I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

The ride will at least be fun! Yes!

[identity profile] jakeexperience.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
As in Leland Palmer Ray Wise? Sold!

I'm just a little leery of giving most broadcast tv a shot, given how things I like tend to be canceled either very quickly or right after the season cliffhanger (Angel S. 5, Twin Peaks).

[identity profile] agilebrit.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
*sigh* Yes, it's on opposite "House." Which I have to tape for the Hubby...

Which means I can actually watch "Reaper." *facepalm* I completely forgot about that one tonight. Damn.

[identity profile] tobywolf13.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's against House. It's just not going to survive and neither did "Dead Like Me' which is a shame because I love quirky shows like this. It was very funny.

[identity profile] midnightsjane.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
I watched out of curiousity, and I'm hooked. It was great! Funny and quirky, plus a very smooth devil..
Was it just my eyes, or did Sam have a moustache that sort of appeared and disappeared at random?

[identity profile] herewiss13.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
It's also up against 'Eureka' which is a plucky little show.

I am basking, so shall try not to think too long and too hard about the possible longevity.

But gosh, it was fun.

[identity profile] justhuman.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 11:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to watch when they rebroadcast on Thursday -- looking forward to it based on the positive comments on the flist. Right now Reaper is also on up against Eureka! Last night was the worst though because for some unknown reason Boston Legal started at 9:30.

Next week is Eureka's season finale and BL goes back to 10pm . It'll be just Reaper verses House still not the most encouraging news but at least it will have a shot.

[personal profile] cheshyre 2007-09-26 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
Um, because I didn't know about it?

Just watched the clips on the link you provided.

Did somebody say there's a rebroadcast? This does look good...

[identity profile] kurukami.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
I'll have to BitTorrent the first ep. When's it on, normally?

[identity profile] ponders-life.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It was opposite Dancing with the Stars! :(
I'll have to track down a torrent...

[identity profile] married-n-mich.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It was quirky and fun and I hope it lasts. IMO Supernatural is an okay show, but there's lots of fangirls. Guessing that's why its still on - and yes I still watch it. I can only hope Reaper will survive for the same reasons.

[identity profile] kokuten.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
ah well, maybe I'll be able to catch it on DVD.

I gotta upgrade to a dual-tuner DVR box so I can tape this _and_ House.

Oh, it sounds fantastic -- I like the sound of it, plus I trust your recs.

Hope you're well -- give a call or a ping sometime if you have the time!

I think it is funny that Reaper and Chuck both resemble other shows that were canceled after a season. I guess it has something to do with the fact that it isn't about new ideas, but the right combination of elements to make the whole. Or if they are canceled maybe it isn't.

[identity profile] skarman.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
True, Reaper reminds me so much of Brimstone, although in a more funny way. John Glover made a perfect, more sinister Devil. Ray Wise, though, is perfect as the genial, nice guy Devil. It really shows when they're in the ice rink. That gleeful look on his face.... Priceless!

[identity profile] delibby.livejournal.com 2007-09-27 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
The thing to keep in mind here is that it's on CW. They seem to have a decent understanding of the kind of ratings they can get/will accept for a show that's up against a hit on another network. Supernatural's been up against CSI and Grey's Anatomy for two years and it's back again. I think they might actually have realistic ratings expectations.

Or possibly I'm delusional.

[identity profile] kurukami.livejournal.com 2007-09-27 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Having now torrented and watched the first ep of Reaper... I'm in complete agreement. It's so rare for me that a show will make me burst into uncontrollable laughter and giggling, but Reaper did it more than once! It's quirky, true, but then again so is a lot of what the CW puts on. And if they keep putting together kick-ass alternative-subject shows like this and Supernatural, and start phasing out the sillier sitcoms, I'll be very tempted to put them high on my list of networks to watch.

Used to be that the only reason I tuned in to the CW was Supernatural. But with Eureka about to finish up its summer season, I think I may've just found another. *grin*

Of course, one must question whether their co-worker's understanding of the "rules" by which God and the Devil play is in any way accurate. The Devil COULD be bluffing... but really, who wants to take a risk and call that bluff? Least of all someone with certain self-esteem problems like Sam? ; )

OMG I love your icon!

I caught the online preview of Reaper when it was released a few weeks ago. It's a hoot.

I had a wonderful Dead Like Me flashback when they went to the Motor Registry and giggled madly at the idea of the Upper and Lower realms doing battle over driver licence photo rights.

[identity profile] redrikki.livejournal.com 2007-09-28 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to agree with you, based on the first episode, Reaper is one of those weird little shows in unfortunate time-slots which is destined to die young but gain a cult following. The Devil was great, but I'm kind of surprised there aren't reactionary religious types screaming bloody murder about a show where the main character works for satan.
