Excellent! Fake LJ-User Tags for the Taking!

People cross-posting on multiple journals might appreciate this.

via srz_bznz on Insane Journal:

You can have the little LJ-code icon on any Journaling site and have it link to the correct journal, be it on LiveJournal, InsaneJournal, GreatestJournal, DeadJournal, JournalFen, or Blurty, courtesy of the Fake LJ-User Tag page.

Here's some examples:

This is InsaneJournal liz_marcs

This is GreatestJournal liz_marcs

This is JournalFen liz_marcs

Most excellent!

That's cool, although the code is honkin' long. I see what they're doing. If they're going to do that, why not go the whole way and use the tag that goes with the service? Put the little skull in for DJ and the Tweak for IJ? I know, you're not the one with the answers. I wonder if I show my spouse if he could code it for me. *thinks* :-)

Looks like you'd need to figure out where on the various other journals they keep the various images for the user tag (and at least for InsaneJournal, just changing the image source from LJ to IJ doesn't work). Or you'd need to save a copy of the image somewhere and link to that ...

That is made of awesome! Thank you.

Seems a little meaningless to go through a form for something that's relatively easy to code, and lacks the unique icons I just copy-paste the code and either take out the style format adds in those extra tags, or add in extra tags I want the icon to be the same as the custom ones on my style.

For example, these are my GJ and IJ tags:

[personal profile] innerbrat
[info]innerbrat

<A><B><A><SPAN class=ljuser style="WHITE-SPACE: nowrap"><A href="http://www.greatestjournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=innerbrat"><IMG style="BORDER-RIGHT: 0pt; BORDER-TOP: 0pt; VERTICAL-ALIGN: bottom; BORDER-LEFT: 0pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: 0pt" height=17 alt=[info] src="http://img.greatestjournal.com/userinfo.gif" width=17></A><A href="http://innerbrat.greatestjournal.com/"><B>innerbrat</B></A></SPAN>

<SPAN style="WHITE-SPACE: nowrap" lj:user="innerbrat"><A href="http://innerbrat.insanejournal.com/profile"><IMG style="BORDER-RIGHT: 0pt; BORDER-TOP: 0pt; VERTICAL-ALIGN: bottom; BORDER-LEFT: 0pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: 0pt" height=17 alt=[info] src="http://www.insanejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif" width=17></A><A href="http://innerbrat.insanejournal.com/"><B>innerbrat</B></A></SPAN>

The IJ has the IJ tag, the GJ shows up with whatever custom icon you've installed on your style

Problem with the top option is that neither is defining width/height. It should be an easy embed, width/height tags are pretty easy to do and the dimensions are always the same.

Without them, those of us with image placeholders on get something like this:

So IB's method is better across the board. (@IB, didn't see your tags in the code at first, rewrote this one but thought you'd still like to see it, I do prefer to see the specific icons for the site in question. Well, I prefer to see daleks, but that's different...)

Mat, I have no idea what you're saying to me in that last aside.

When I started replying, I'd misread your code and thought that it also didn't define width/height, typed the thing then saw you had put them in, kicked myself and rewrote it, while on the phone to a client, hence the gibberish, sorry...

Right! OK, my bad, I have a headache.

Nah, as I said, it's the exact same code the software generates, altered to either get rid of those closing tags caused by the ljuser style, or to remove the style altogether.

>_> Maybe one of use should recode the form to work better?

Random - are you posting the same here as IJ? If so, I'll defriend you here, and just keep following you there.

(This is all part of my cunning plan to move the majority of my blogging to there, although I will be keeping a blog here for commenting on friends who haven't moved.)

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. I'm double-posting, with slightly more content going to IJ at this point (if only because my FList there is a lot more manageable).

So feel free to swap off and add me on IJ and drop me on LJ.

Done and done :)

Added you on IJ and GJ--just in case. ;)
