The fat lady sure does sing pretty...

I don't know how fast this has gotten around, but Brad has officially announced that he's leaving 6A. The announcement, no doubt, was brought about by this bit of gossip from the Valleywag.

Insomnia, who worked for LJ waaaaaay back in the early days has some unique insight into Brad's departure and LJ's sinking fortunes. To give Insomnia his due, he's been prognosticating LJ's current trajectory since just before 6A bought out LJ.

In other news....sorry I haven't gotten back to your great comments in my previous posts (and once more, I'm slightly overwhelmed).

But, *cough cough* someone *cough cough* is working on fixin' up her purdy The Last Tin Soldier in accordance to suggestions from betas...which is somewhat affecting the final part as well. (insert grumbling about real life and the need to make money to pay for my rent while we're at it.)

So I've been reading, but I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut-off too.

I just want to take the time to say thank you to everyone who commented and who also gave me additional food for thought as well.

Right...now back to rescuing my laundry from the clutches of the Evil Dryer...

Oh that Valleywag article was just...God, I love snarky reporters. They put a special brand of BITE to an article.

Better Business Bureau for San Francisco (home of Six Apart)
http://www.goldengatebbb.org/

As of tonight (August 6) 6A had only 7 complaints registered in the past 36 months, and 6 of those 7 were resolved.

I find it amazing that of all the paid members who feel they were treated poorly, none appear to have filed a complaint with the BBB, which can be done online.

Poor customer service is the issue... and that's exactly what the BBB is all about.

btw, Six Apart is not a member. Why am I not surprised?

I've been told you can only file a complaint if you are a current paying member. Is that true? Or do people who've let their paid accounts lapse get to file a complaint too?

I have no idea what the SF BBB's policy is. But around here, they take complaints from people who have bought goods or services and had problems with the transactions. If you had a paying account and dropped it because the service was problematic, that seems reason enough. Or to put it another way--if 6A suddenly got reasonable and defined their terms and acted in a consistent, ethical manner--would you return to paid membership? I'm really curious to see whether they would respond to an unquestionably legitimate ombudsman like the BBB, as opposed to fan writers, whom they do not seem to respect at all.

Complaint filed. We'll see if anything comes of it.

If you bought a book at a store, and didn't like their service, you can complain--you are a customer, even if you'll never buy from them again.

I assure you the BBB doesn't require you be a current and repeat customer of the business you're complaining about.

And... Ta Dah! Free users are customers here too. They see ads, and they are bound by the service contract (a.k.a. "TOS").
