Now This is Why I Love New England...
The Feds have decided that it's time to sell the Penfield Reef Lighthouse off the coast of Fairfield, Conn. in Long Island Sound.
Total asking price? $1
Yes, you read that right. One George Washington will buy you a lighthouse that looks like this:

The catch?
Whoever buys it must know how to take care of the resident ghost.
And, no, the link doesn't send you to The Weekly World News (a fine publication that I always wanted to work for because...awesome!). It sends you to the Boston Globe.
Wheeeeee!
Ahhh, New England...granting official recognition to the supernatural since 1620.

It appears from the other people commenting, the legend that the lighthouse is haunted may be a nation-wide thing at this point.
Besides, I'm very sure that several New England states have "disclosure" laws where if you sell a house you have to disclose whether your believe or reasonably believe the property is haunted. I know Massachusetts has such a law on the books. I'm not sure about Connecticut, though.

Lovely lighthouse!
And, despite all indicators to the contrary, there are some words on the Duck Duck Goose day. You may even see them soon.

I once spent a week minding a lighthouse off the coast near Sechelt, BC. It was pretty cool, but isolated. Just me, my husband, and a whole lot of seagulls. There was the daily bald eagle flyover too..which pleased us, but not the seagulls.
