Now This is Why I Love New England...

The Feds have decided that it's time to sell the Penfield Reef Lighthouse off the coast of Fairfield, Conn. in Long Island Sound.

Total asking price? $1

Yes, you read that right. One George Washington will buy you a lighthouse that looks like this:

The catch?

Whoever buys it must know how to take care of the resident ghost.

And, no, the link doesn't send you to The Weekly World News (a fine publication that I always wanted to work for because...awesome!). It sends you to the Boston Globe.

Wheeeeee!

Ahhh, New England...granting official recognition to the supernatural since 1620.

My boys (*points to icon*) approve. :)

Always pleased to oblige. :-)

And that was the very first thing I thought of, natch. *grin*

"What would the Wincester brothers be doing in New England this time of year...?"

Obviously, the new owners will need their help! *g*

Hey, I love your icon; is it stealable?

Absolutely! : )

Thought I recognized the lighthouse - TAPS did an investigation there, didn't they, that got shown on Ghost Hunters?

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly? I have no idea if that's true, but if you say that you saw it on Ghost Hunters, I believe you. It's regionally famous for being haunted, so I'd be more shocked if it didn't show up somewhere.

[identity profile] lil-fatty.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh that is awesome. I love that they officialized the haunting by including that in their sales pitch.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The haunting there is too famous for them not to at least acknowledge the rumors. (Heeee!) Or, at least it's famous regionally for being haunted.

It appears from the other people commenting, the legend that the lighthouse is haunted may be a nation-wide thing at this point.

Besides, I'm very sure that several New England states have "disclosure" laws where if you sell a house you have to disclose whether your believe or reasonably believe the property is haunted. I know Massachusetts has such a law on the books. I'm not sure about Connecticut, though.

I love lighthouses.

[identity profile] sunnyd-lite.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm and I thought Ontario had generous laws when a new owner purchased a tenanted property!! *snerk*

Lovely lighthouse!

And, despite all indicators to the contrary, there are some words on the Duck Duck Goose day. You may even see them soon.

Dude, that is just brilliant.

Missed you yesterday. Pretty lighthouse.

Hmmm, I'm retiring at the end of the month..maybe I should consider a career as Lighthousekeeper/ghost minder. :P
I once spent a week minding a lighthouse off the coast near Sechelt, BC. It was pretty cool, but isolated. Just me, my husband, and a whole lot of seagulls. There was the daily bald eagle flyover too..which pleased us, but not the seagulls.

Sounds like there is more to worry about with the asbestos and lead paint than poor Frederick Jordan. As ghosts go it seems rather benign, helpful even. Would love to live in a light house but couldn't afford the ordered repairs to a National Historic Sight!

LOL! I grew up in CT, and ghost stories were totally part of my heritage. I spent most of my life in Mystic, so the ghosts were usually ship captains, sailors lost at sea, and/or their girlfriends/widows.

Remmeber...just because you do not believe in the supernatural does not mean that the supernatural doesn't believe in YOU.

The Weekly World News (a fine publication that I always wanted to work for because...awesome!)

Ohhh dude, me too. I mean, who WOULDN'T?
