Clinton and the DNC...

I'd do him.

Seriously.

Aside from that, good speech. GREAT speech.

Maaaaaan, I missed you.

And key: Clinton talked about what the Democratic Party is, rather than what it isn't.

Duuuuuude, did he always talk like a preacher?

Lots of good lines there.

I'm verklempt. Seriously.

My little political wonky self is fanning herself....

Yes. Clinton has always talked like a preacher.

Better be careful, Liz. I've little doubt that if, say, one of the editorial staff of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette were to read this, they'd reply with something along the lines of, "How do we know that you haven't already?" and only be kidding just a little bit. I'm NOT looking forward to finding their editorial about the DNC or Clinton's speech in the break room at work in the next couple of nights. These are the people who took the Supreme Court (and singled out Sandra Day O'Connor) to task for the decisions made in the last month regarding the Quantanimo prisoners' right to access the legal system, get legal counsel, find out what the charges against them are, etc. (Basically, they unilaterally supported the governent's claim to the right to deny them such things and hold them prisoner indefinitely by labeling them as "enemy combatants." If Clinton had tried that while he was president, they'd be in the front of the line accusing him of abusing his power as president.)

sorry if this is intruding...

read this on a friend's friend list and i must say, Slick Willy was on top of his game last night. All the speeches were at least decent, even, Al "I may be alive/I may not be" Gore. But Bill blew me away.

I've been straightline republican over the years, but, becoming more and more moderate by the day. Last night, Bill reminded me of why i do LOVE the Democrats. His speech was right up there with some of the best i've heard. Must say, if i could get over three or four of my sticky topics, I could vote Dem. OF course, that means i would have to vote for Kerry, who looks like a walking zombie and hasn't provided much vocal support to sway me otherwise. So basically we have a chimp (bush) against a zombie (kerry).

Duuuuuude, did he always talk like a preacher?

Not always. When it comes to his speeches, there are two Clinton's - I'm glad we got the good one, rather than the drawn out wonky one.

My sister met Bill Clinton a couple of months ago. Got her picture with him and everything. She said he was every bit as charasmatic as people always said he was. Her boyfriend's cousin had a discussion with him about some article or other in Vanity Fair, and the cousin said that he made her feel like she was the most interesting person he'd ever spoken with.

I didn't hear the speech. I imagine it is somewhere on line, though...*goes off to look*

When he's in his passionate mode, he's a great speaker. Always has been. He's one of two, maybe three politicians that I can listen to without feeling the need to bolt out of the room.

Wasn't his inclusion of himself in the Bush-blessed super wealthy class just brilliant? It was so effective. It eliminated the stark division between "us" and "them", so we can remember that the "thems" aren't so monolithic as they appear. Just mentioning the idea that Bill and some of his super-rich cohort wouldn't have minded giving up $5,000 of their tax break reminds me that the group Bush referred to as his base ("There's the haves. You're the have-mores, or as I like to call you, my base." paraphrased) is comprised of a lot of different world views.

Clinton is, and pretty much always was, a great orator... a somewhat lost art among modern politicians. Reagan, Kennedy and the Roosevelts had it, but I can't really think of many others in our century.

I liked Gore's speech too - the guy found a lot of ways to twist normal everyday phrases into jabs at the 2000 election results - "laying awake at night counting and recounting sheep", "you win some, you lose some, and then there's that little-known third category", and so on. He never really struck me as a good speechmaker, but someone was making with the comedy on this one...
