cubed_music is now Live and On the Air
Thanks for the feedback on the request everyone!
I'm officially throwing open the doors for
cubed_music, aka, Music from the Cube.
Please be sure that you read the FAQ before you sign up.
Everyone who joins will have posting access so they can upload their own CD reviews. Thus far, I've already approved two members
idhren24 and
h4nselel who should be able to see the locked posts as well as post their own reviews.
There's already a post there (by moi) that covers Randy Newman and the Squirrel Nut Zippers. You know you're in if you can see the post.
Please note: I've set the security settings to FRIENDS ONLY, which means that the posts are automatically locked down. I don't know if watching the community alone will allow you to see the posts or comment. You may have to join in order to see the contents of the journal.
So...I guess that's it.
cubed_music is officially taking off as of 8 p.m. EST.
ETA: Before I forget,
cubed_music has a LastFM community. In essence, the communities over on LastFM allow all the members to "pool" their playlist to create a radio station.
As of 9:45 p.m. EST, the
cubed_music radio station went live (thanks
sunfell for the assist in joining!). If more than 15 people join, the community will get its own music charts.
Membership on the LastFM community is open all LastFM members.
The community radio station is public, which means that anyone (both members and non-members of LastFM) can tune in for a listen.

And I've added you, so you're all set for viewing, commenting, and posting access.
Re: about cubed_music
Yay, I'm all joined :p
Re: about cubed_music
Well, that, and I wasn't sure about the communities future after the Great LJ Strikeout. I had to think hard about where I was going to put it, but since most of the people who are interested are on LJ, I decided to keep it here and leave it ad-free. There really aren't any special bennies that make it worth paying for a community, to be honest.
Re: about cubed_music
I'd be glad to lend a hand if you wanted/needed, I'm not a tech-y mod, though, never have been, I stuck to guidelines and make sure the rules weren't being broken.
Re: about cubed_music
I'm not expecting anything techie, since all the technical issues are pretty much ironed out at this point. It would be more content and trolling issues that would come into play.
If the community ever hits above 100 members tho', that could very quickly change. I'll definitely keep you in mind if I need help.

Although I feel like I've been working on the thing forever. *headdesk*
Anyway, you're approved and in.
And no worries on sticking with commenting. In communities like this, at least three quarters of the membership never post anything. So I wouldn't be surprised if the same fall-out happened here.
::cheer::
I'm not sure whether I'll write reviews (how short can a review be? to me, the word "review" connotes multiparagraph-length thoughtful/analytical essays... I don't think I can do that. I'd love to share some of my music, though -- as you know, I have some fairly eclectic stuff -- so maybe I'll give it a shot and see what happens), but I promise to comment whenever I download.
Re: ::cheer::
If it includes a link to buy the CD (assuming it's not out of print), a link to download at least two sample tunes, and the name of the artist in the header, and a brief something about whether you think the CD is good or bad (really, just a short paragraph is all you need) you're pretty much good to go.
A lot of the FAQ was crafted after reading a bazillion other FAQs from other music-sharing communities on LJ. The commenting thing is pretty much standard for all of them, as is the "play nice" warnings and the links to filesharing sites.
*fingers crossed* Here's hoping I won't have to mod too much.
Oh, and the companion radio station over on LastFM just went live. (YAY!) Here's the link: http://www.last.fm/group/cubed_music
Yay!

Question about the FAQ.
(Anonymous) 2007-06-24 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)No, you may not upload an entire CD for download.
There is one exception to this rule: if the CD is out of print or cannot otherwise be purchased, you may offer the whole CD. For example, if the CD can only be purchased used (i.e., from eBay, Amazon Marketplace, second-hand record stores), then you may upload the whole CD. However, if the CD can be bought new (i.e., not used) from a primary seller (i.e., Amazon, Borders Books & Music, HMV, Virgin), you cannot offer an entire CD.
What about import CD's? I'm in America and for me to get some of the CD's the only way I could get it is used. But if I were in another country, most likely the issuing country, it would be available from a primary seller. Where would these import CD's fall in the above?
Re: Question about the FAQ.
If a CD can be bought new from a primary seller anywhere in the world, the entire CD cannot be uploaded.
As always, you may upload a portion of the CD (at least one less than half the number of tracks), which should give you a lot of leeway.
In either case, I do understand the question. I have a few imported CDs myself, but I think it's better to play it safe in this case.
