Administrivia: Adding to and trimming from FList

I've had a little bit of churning over the past few months on my FList, y'know, just the regular friend/unfriend kind of thing as interests diverge, or I've said something that pissed people off, and all of that.

I, of course, have done nothing by way of cleaning up my own FList since I started this thing waaaaay back in 2004.

I'm in the midst of a little bit of a FList trim, but as usual I seem to be adding more people than actually cutting. Gah! Typical. *facepalm*

Side note: A big thank you to people who've friended me over the past few months (and days, as it turns out). I'm sorry I haven't responded, but I've been hiding from doing this bit of administrative work since, oh, September 2006.

Procrastination, thy name is Liz. ^_^

Part of it is that, in some cases, I've been hesitant to add people because I have no idea who some of the people friending me are and why, but mostly it's procrastination.

Just FYI, in general, I'm cutting the LJs:

  • of people who haven't posted to their LJ in the past few months (or at all!)
  • where I can't tell why they friended me
  • of people who have already unfriended me for whatever reason
  • are clearly spam LJs, commercial LJs, or serial frienders

I suspect this is going to take me until Sunday.

If I've unfriended you, please know:

  • It's not personal.
  • I may have done it by accident, in which case let me know and I'll add you back onto the FList.
  • It's because I didn't see any recent entries on your LJ, in which case, again, let me know and I'll add you back onto the FList.

If you want a quick check on whether or not I've unfriended you, you can check out Joule. If I have unfriended you, I'll probably show up on either Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

(Like I said, this is gonna take a little bit.)

Note that if you're already friended, some of you might see yourselves getting friended again. That's because I hit modify by accident or something.

Let me stress one thing: Roughly 95% of this LJ is not under a FLock of any kind. I only FLock the odd RL stuff I post here and the occasional entry where I feel like putting on my fandom wanky pants so I can rant.

In short, you're not going to be missing a whole hell of a lot in the FLocked posts if you get cut. I swear.

Anyway, thanks for bearing with me. And I apologize for any inconvenience.

ETA: I've tried 23 times to post this stupid thing to LJ and I couldn't. At long last, success!

ETA Electric Boogalo: Even if you're not on my FList, you are of course more than welcome to hang out here (and comment, too). If I make a public post, then I better be able to take my lumps, both good and bad, right? Just clearing up that bit of confusion. Sorry.

Hiya! I'm one of your recent new friends. [livejournal.com profile] hobgoblinn has been telling me to read you for ages. No worries in any direction about friending.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, you're one of the people I just friended back, since I could see on your userinfo that we had stuff in common.

Thank you for friending me. ^_^

[identity profile] tesla321.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
I try never to look at the joule. What happens, though, is that I'll write one story out of the blue, say, Mal/River in "Firefly" and someone friends, and then they get to hear about practicing law and how large my black eye is. So I tend not to check on these things so as to wonder what was up.

I used to have a small friends' list because I had dial-up. Now, with broadband, I'm getting better about friending back.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
The last time I used Joule was...ummmm...2005? It was after there was a massive wank attack and people were doing a massive friending and unfriending for each other and I couldn't tell where my FList was without checking it.

All I did was run a check on my own LJ to see if it still worked (it does), but other than that, I don't really bother with it.

[identity profile] tesla321.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
I was brought up in the south and think everyone should like me, so I have a pang when I see I've been defriended. (laughs at self) I mean in my personal life, of course...

[identity profile] faith-chaos.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
But we love hearing about the black eye! And Teh Law's all kinds of exciting, yo! :) Plus, you know, knitting!

[identity profile] bubble-blunder.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Let's see if this time I will be able to comment.

I am also one of your new additions who you probably don't know. I actually discovered your journal in the wake of the recent kerfluffles, and friended because you made sense, and I liked your writing style. And I know that you left me a comment in my journal yesterday, which I tried to reply to several times to no avail (I'm heading there next to try again), so I knew that you were at least aware that I friended you. No worries regarding friending/defriending, I just added you because you seem to have a lot of interesting things to say and are sensible about them, which is refreshing with all of the bs of late.

~Lisa

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Heeee! Someone else I friended back!

Like I said, I added more than I cut. And the people I cut probably won't even notice because they haven't been around in something like a year.

Anyway, welcome to the LJ. *bows* Kick off your shoes, and have a beer. It's all good.

And thank you for friending me. It's nice to meet new people in Buffy fandom.

[identity profile] bubble-blunder.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks muchly for the beer. The one thing that never ceases to amaze me about this fandom is how big it actually is. I've been around for a couple of years now, and until this recent kerfluffle there was a whole corner of fandom that I didn't even know existed. And they write! And it's really good fic! And they also rec even more really good fic! So now I have some more really awesome stuff to read and comment on. Very cool.

Good to meet ya, hon!

~Lisa

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Check out my FList, too. It's, ummm, varied and it's not universally fandom, but there's a lot of Jossverse fandomers there. With Jossverse fanfic, I've got everyone from gen, to het, to slash covering just about all characters and all ships.

I'm a little universal in my reading. Heee!

Going from the icon, I'm gonna say you're a Spike fan. I don't write a lot of Spike (because he's one character I can't get a hold of in a satisfactory manner), but that's slowly changing since I'm working on two fics where he's a main character.

*fingers crossed*

[identity profile] bubble-blunder.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Will do. I'm also pretty universal in what I read. About the only things I don't touch very often or at all are the AU things and anything incestuous (squicks me). Oh, and Spike/William just throws me for a loop, so I don't usually go there either.

I do like Spike a lot, mostly because I think that he's an interesting character and there are some writers who do such an amazing job of exploring him. If I had to pick a favorite character, it would probably be a toss up between Dawn, Tara, and Anya, just because I think that they were all kind of underused in canon and so there's so much room for fandom to play with them. That being said, I also really like most of the other characters as well, (other than Riley, who I never liked). In general, I just think that nearly all of the Jossverse characters have so many facets and depths that were never explored as deeply onscreen as we get to seem them explored in fandom, which would be why I adore fanfic.

Having tried, and failed, to write myself, I can see where Spike would be a hard character to get a good grip on. He's complex as all hell, and in a lot of ways his "voice" changed more than any of the other characters' voices did during the course of the show. And I will keep my fingers crossed for you, and look forward to reading the fics in question.

*Off to check out your flist*

~Lisa

You never got around to friending me, but I figured y'all had a massive Flist already and didn't take it personally. I myself am something of a Posting Monster. =)

~M~

..that is moi in the icon..

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
My list is, ummmm, staggering at the moment. Or mind-boggling. Anyway, I know we've got a few comms in common.

(I don't think I've even reached the "n"s yet...)

I don't think I've even reached the "n"s yet...

408 Mutual Friends is pretty daunting. And I say that at 229. ;P

Re: I don't think I've even reached the "n"s yet...

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but my brother jokes that one-third are here for the Buffy fanfic, one-third are here for the political ranting, and one-third are here for the CD reviews and music downloads.

I think once I get the Music from the Cube community off the ground, that number will drop.

I don't remember who or what led my to y'all, but I stayed for BSG stuff. =)

*grin* I'm a whole number!

[identity profile] jakeexperience.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a fellow fan of buffy and angel, and am on the same side of the political fence as you. I'm a recent friend and I met you through kyra.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. You're still on the Friends List. ^_^

I think I friended you right around the time my LJ got slammed with the 9/11 post. (I think I stopped dealing with the friending administration right around that time because I was freaked out by the response...)

So, you're still there.

[identity profile] fadethecat.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
I friended you because you post interesting things that I enjoy reading. No stress either way on my account.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
I friended you back just today. ^_^

I apologize if you waited. Like I said, I've been horrible about dealing with this bit of administration for something like six months. Once I catch up and deal with it, I'll be able to (hopefully) stay on top of it.

Thank you for friending me back.

[identity profile] fadethecat.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, I don't even know when someone's friended me until I start seeing friends-locked entries. Or until they start commenting in my journal a bit... It passes me by! I'm sort of oblivious that way. But in any case, happy to have the whole communication potential thing set up.

(I think I would be more coherent if it weren't after midnight, but one can't have everything.)

[identity profile] hobgoblinn.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Do what you need to do, my dear. But just know that on the rare occasions when you comment on my posts, you pretty much Make My Day. And I'm so glad [livejournal.com profile] antennapedia and you have finally met, in a virtual sense. You two are the wicked wenches who pulled me out into the wild waters of LJdom. So, thanks for that.

I'm feeling kind of overwhelmed by my much smaller flist, myself. Need to trim some communities, maybe. Most of what I end up reading has been recced on more than one of my friends' journals. Must ponder....

(And your earlier post on communication and freedom and power just rocked. I'm here for all 3 thirds of your brother's analysis, btw-- music, political rants, and fic.)

Hob

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, right. Like I'm gonna let you go.

Thanks for pointing [Unknown site tag] in my direction, too.

I'm sorry about being such a lurker *facepalm* but there are days when I get a leeetle overwhelmed with things. I'm trying to do better, but I think I may have to filter out comms from my regular reading and only check that stuff every few days, rather than trying to munch on the FList all at once.

[identity profile] fierydream.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
*grin*

I friended you because a friend of mine ([livejournal.com profile] trish786) recc'd me your Buffyverse fics (which I really enjoyed, by the way; not sure if I ever commented). Not bothered by friending either way. :)

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Heee! I friended you back today.

Like I said, I've been sucktastic at dealing with anything on my FList for six months. Hopefully once I get the mess fixed (which will take a few days), I'll be more on top of things.

Thanks for friending me, by the way. ^_^

And no worries about commenting. Comment or lurk, it's all good, so no worries.

[identity profile] postholedigger.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Hiya
Please keep me. Now that I've finally graduated I'll have more time to comment (though maybe not post--not much of a diarist and I'm boring anyway) and I do love your rants. And your fic. And your taste in music.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
No worries. (I haven't gotten to the P section, either.)

I know some journals are just reading journals, so that was part of the reason for putting it up. I generally check the userinfo out as well, so it isn't just on the basis of no posts. If there's actually a user info with names I recognize, I'm probably not going to cut that LJ since I know it's a reader journal.

Thanks for dropping me a line, tho.

*hugs*

(Anonymous) 2007-05-26 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
I've actually thought about signing up on livejournal just so I can stop posting anonymous comments and stuff. But a livejournal with no entries at all is probably not that great either.
hanselel

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a few people on my Flist who have reader-only journals that they only use to comment, just the same I understand the hesitation.

I'm actually pretty good about friending back, so if you do decide to create a reader/commenting LJ, drop me a line and I'll add you.

[identity profile] h4nselel.livejournal.com 2007-05-27 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I signed up. Who knows, maybe I'll even have something to post once in a while :)

[identity profile] umino-gaara.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
I friended you because I really like your fic. And I find all the non fic stuff you write about interesting.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't gotten down to the "U" section of my FList. Heeee! Yeah, I'm slow.

I've already got you mutually friended anyway, so it's definitely not an issue. The people I'm trimming probably aren't even going to notice because they haven't been around in forever. I only put up the warning in case the mouse slipped and someone found themselves unfriended when I actually didn't mean to.

It's more a case of not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings by accident.

[identity profile] first-spike.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[waves]

I added you to my flist because of something you wrote entitled I Remember Townsend; I'm not quite sure what led me to it, but it was the perfect antidote to whatever bit of insanity had me riled that day.

That, and the music. I don't download, but I do appreciate the reviews and pointers, and the occasional glimpses into the intrigues of the fanfic world.

Oh, the username? Nothing to do with BtVS. Really. :-)

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi! *waves*

I friended you back because even though you were someone I wasn't sure why they friended me, I liked your posts on writing. ^_^

Going by your journal content, I kind of figured that your user name referred to "first draft" writing. In the newspaper world, to spike a story means to kill it, and there's your user icon with the very same spike my journalism professors used to threaten us with. I warmed my heart, actually.

I'm planning to move the music posts to a friends-only community, mostly because I need to cover my tracks a little bit more. But once the community is up, it'll be open to everyone who wants to post a music review in a semi-protected environment.

*pokes* I'm not much in Buffy fandom any more, but I was hoping you'd keep me friended.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
*grins*

Yup, you're still mutually friended. Most people I'm cutting wouldn't even notice. And have I mentioned that it's a really, really small fraction of cuts? My nefarious plan is not working since I seem to be adding a lot more than I'm cutting right now. *headdesk*

[identity profile] hendrikboom.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I friended you ages ago (well. months anyway) after your memorial/remembrance day post about getting the details tight as a journalist. Since then I've been reading just about every post you've made. I have no idea whether you've friended me or not. I post very little in my journal -- most of my posting is in reply to others, and I avoid posting unless I have something to say besides (cuddles) and the like.

And yes, please do finish Facing the heart in Darkness. I've enjoyed it very much so far.

I wish the user-interface made a clear and obvious distinction between subscribing to a journal and friending someone. That would make it not so unfriendly when you unsubscribe to someone's journal.

[identity profile] reader42.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
As someone earlier said, "I friended you because I really like your fic."
While I don't always agree with your politics, I appreciate pieces as well written as yours even on the times when I disagree with what they're saying.

[identity profile] lavenderherring.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
<< I'm just here because I like reading the fanfiction-related rants. But I lurk so maybe I deserve cuts.

[identity profile] koos73.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I hope you won't unfriend because of my lack of updating my livejournal.

[identity profile] faith-chaos.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey there! You're like my LJ mom, you know? You introduced me to Lj-Land, and for that I'm very grateful [and sometimes mad, this iskinda time-consuming ;)]. You were the first person I friended and I've met a bunch of wondeful people through your journmal. And also, you're not-fandom posts makew me think a lot, and point me to very good stuff. Plus, when you comment on somthing I've written, I get warm inside.

Hi sweetie! I'm still here, although I tend to vanish for months at a time. ;)

I love reading your posts, especially fandom stuff -- you say a lot of things I'd love to say... but with way less profanity and insults than I could ever manage. *G*
