Meme for a head-achy kind of day

Dear Mother Nature,

Please be explaining why I have a huuuuuuge allergy-related headache while there's friggin' snow getting dumped on our asses. Snow =/= seasonal allergies. Kthnxbi.

*****

Dear DayLightSavingsTime,

I cannot seem to bring my body clock in sync with you and my brain is starting to hurt from lack of sleep. I hate you, just on general principle.

*****

Dear UncaSam,

Yes, I will attack my tax-related paperwork this weekend. However, I will not be entering the figures into TurboTax quite yet. See, my weekend schedule looks sucktrastic and has since, oh, Monday.

*****

Dear Apartment,

Why can't you clean your own damn self?

*****

Dear GeorgetheAmazingLoveBird,

It's time for you to earn your birdie keep. Clean your own damn cage.

*****

Dear Flist...

Ummm, nothing mean to say to any of you. I swear. I just got this cool meme that I picked up from...somewhere. I forget where.

Here's the Sekrit Rools:

  • Go to YouTube
  • Enter the date of your birth
  • Pick one to three music videos from the list

All I can say is, "Ph34r m3! For my YouTube choices will make you cheer, and then make you cry, and then probably make you go blind."

Here's what I got:

Johnny Cash singing "Ring of Fire," backed by the whitest mariachi band in the history of planet earth and a quartet of Pepto-Bismol Pink back-up singers.

Sometimes it's hard to forget that before Elvis became an American punchline, he actually did look like he rocked a few jail houses (and more than a few beds) when dressed head-to-toe in black leather.

Manfred Mann are not only performing the worst lip-sync of all time, but also looking about 10 shades of high in this ode to the 'Mighty Quinn.' Between you and me, I think they've got everything except motor oil in their veins at this point.

I'm having massive allergy issues today, too. It's strange. *Hugs*

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, god. I'm glad it's not just me.

*hands you a leather-clad Elvis*

For some reason, leather-clad Elvis did cheer me up.

Have I mentioned there's a white-out in Newton? Because there is. I'm looking right at it.

*weeps*

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! Leather-clad Elvis!

I'm glad Mr WG is working from home today, rather than working in Newton (which strangely enough is where his office is,) where there is a white-out. *Hugs*

I've seriously been sneezing all day. Even though I took an allergy pill. I might have to take another one.

[identity profile] bastardsnow.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The last couple days here in the DC area have been sucky, allergy wise. I guess that's what happens when, in about 6 days, you go from below-freezing temperatures(Saturday) to cracking 80(Wednesday) to "high of 39, low of 26 with rain and snow likely."(today)

Fucking weather. Make up your mind!

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It looks like freakin' January here. Seriously the snow's up to my mid-thigh. It's skeeery.

[identity profile] leenah.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, your videos are great!!!

if you get an answer from the apartment, will you tell me? my condo isn't speaking to me, so i can't ask it.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
My apartment just laughed at me. :-(

George wasn't much better. :-(

[identity profile] annearchy.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
We still have some snow on the ground (southern Wisconsin) but I'm already getting a scratchy allergy throat too. I sound like Selma Diamond (if you remember her).

I'm so old I doubt if there's anything old enough on YouTube! (unless it's the guy who invented television ;)

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Heeee! It's shocking what you can find on YouTube. Seriously.

Give it a try and see what you find.

[identity profile] annearchy.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
I found some things with titles like "Things to do with Leisure time" and "What to do on a date" - but if I posted them everyone would know exactly what a dinosaur I am ;)

[identity profile] faith-chaos.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll take your allergy and raise you a cold. In the middle of summer too. *iz mizerable*

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
*hands you tea*

My sympathies.

[identity profile] faith-chaos.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks hon... slightly better now.

Good grief, all I get is LDS temples, the march of Turkish Cypriot freedom fighters, Here's To You, Johnny Callison, and It's Nothin' To Me - Jim Reeves. That's it.

I really am old. (But at least I don't have allergies and I finally kicked my cold to the curb--ha!)

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
*is sympathetic*

At least 1968 had a lot of stuff, but a lot of it was from variety shows or concerts broadcast in Europe or on PBS.

Although right now I'm feeling creaky ancient myself.

If you can invent a self-cleaning house you will never have to work again. I guarantee it! :D

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
*wishes really hard*

*sighs*

Nope. Still a mess.

Well, it's a slight variant on the one I did, which wasn't music based, but it's stll cool.

The best bit about the meme? I've managed to turn a fair few people on my friends list from "age: unknown, but close to mine(ish)" to "age: older than me", which given how old LJ usually makes me feel is actually a bit of an achievement ;-) (and your 6 years older is nowhere close to the biggest gap, which actually surprised me muchly)

Agree with you about Elvis though, he was damn good back before we were born.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
What's really amazing is how much things have changed in terms of what's acceptable for casual dress. I mean, even Manfred Mann is somewhat dressed up (casual dress, but still, not a pair of jeans in sight).

The joy of living in an aging of moving pictures, hunh? I feel old. :-(

I know that there are plenty of people on LJ who are older than me (some on my FList) but I'll be honest: I don't feel my age. I guess it's somewhat clean livin' that helps.

Young Elvis? It's sometimes hard to remember that he was one of pioneers for modern American rock. Probably because popular modern view sees him as more a caricature and whereas his contemporaries aren't view that way. *nods*

[identity profile] a2zmom.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I also have a ton of snow being dumped on me. In fact, it's still being dumped.

The worst lip synch I have ever seen was George Clooney in "O Brother, Where Art Thou". He's apparently so inept that his mouth is covered in ever scene where he's supposed to be singing.

I was never an Elvis fan, never understood the whole thing (my rock n roll love started with the Beatles) but when I finally saw the 68 NBC special, I got it big time. The man was sex on stick and dripped charisma. (Now I'm a fan of early Elvis because I'm older and wiser.)

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. We got a genuine nor'easter here. As in a white-out. And it's still coming down. Right now, they're forecasting that it'll be coming down for the next several days.

*checks calendar*

Gee, it doesn't look like January.

As for Elvis, I live in your camp, fer shur. Not a huge fan, but the '68 NBC special is a wonder to behold. He looks mad, bad, and dangerous and he's in fine voice. It's enough to make you want to slap Col. Parker.

I'm getting allergic reactions too, and I'm all the way over in England! Never had to start taking antihistamines this early in the year before!

And they're forecasting a little snow for us too next week - very unusual in March!
