Eddie Izzard on My TV Tonight...YAYE!
So let me get this straight...
FX has this new show called The Riches that's airing tonight at 10 p.m..
It stars her and him.
GLEEEEEEEE!
Please note that if anyone calls me after 10 p.m., they will die.
To celebrate, here's an Eddie Izzard bit from Dressed to Kill.
ETA: Language is most certainly not work-safe.

It's just so weird to hear him do an American accent (which, btw, did slip several times in the pilot ep).
I'm so used to see him in ladies clothes that I actually had a hard time wrapping my head around him looking so completely butch (with full beard, no less).

Yeah, I was kinda in an Eddie frame of mind and looking for it.

Anyway, the show was interesting. I have some issues with the premise. If it was a different cast, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to catch more episodes. But, it's Minnie and Eddie, so I'm going to give it a chance.

*shrug* IMHO, of course.
As for "The Riches," I think the premise is a bit of a stretch, but I'll probably keep tuning in because it was entertaining (or maybe I should say that the actors entertained me...the script was good but with a different cast I probably wouldn't turn in to future episodes).

I think the premise is a bit of a stretch, but the acting definitely raised the bar quite a lot. (Is it me, or did Eddie Izzard's accent slip a couple of times last night?)
I'll probably get hooked after a couple of episodes and they start addressing some of the holes I saw in the premise.

Sadly, I have no cable. I'll just have to imagine how much fun it must be to watch Eddie and Minnie together.

The first episode was entertaining (which really is all it needs to be), but it's definitely a case where the material is definitely raised up by the acting. Don't get me wrong, the material is pretty good, but I kept nitpicking about how X-Y-and-Z could happen (I can only assume that the issues will be addressed in future eps).
Either way I can definitely see getting sucked into it.

Like you've said the cast is what really held this episode together. Eddie Izzard is quite....well charming I guess you would say in the role. I think my favorite scene of the episode was the part when the cousin gypsie guy is beating on Izzard's character and the youngest son jumps in to help, so the guy turns on him and Izzard jumps on top of his son to take his beating and after it all he turns over and cracks a joke to make the boy feel better.
The one thing that did grate on my nerves was how speratic their accents were. Especially Minnie Driver's character. I know they move around all over the country so I'm sure they would pick up a few fragments of different accents but sometimes their accents would jump around so much that it was distracting. (And I caught the bristish slip ups as well) I dunno I guess also its because being from the south hearing someone do a fake southern accent can be like listening someone drag nails down a chalkboard. Minnien Driver's attempt at southern accent was especially irksome.

Oh, I know. I saw The Departed a couple of weeks ago and I was so completely distracted by the accents. I mean, they were bad. You could literally tell who the local boys were (Wahlberg, Damon) vs. who wasn't (Sheen, Baldwin). DiCaprio was the only non-native who did a decent job, and that's because he was clearly copying Wahlberg's accent. Nicholson went the smart route and didn't even bother trying.
Sheen and Baldwin sounded like JFK impersonators. Bad JFK impersonators. There were a couple of scenes where you could practically see Wahlberg and Demon trying not to cringe at the badness of it. It was freakin' distracting as all hell.
And the less said about Matthew Broderick's exceedingly sucky Boston accent in Glory, the better. That one was so horrendous that I went from being a fan to hating him by the end of the movie. He sounded like a refugee from Gone with the Wind, and not a Boston Brahmin, thank you very muchly.
Heh. Sorry. Just my way of saying, "I feel your pain."

Exactly! I guess everyone gets a little irked when someone butchers their accent. Hearing a bad accent can sometimes break the artistic imagery. Eddie Izzard wasn't to bad with his southern accent but I think that's mostly because he was trying so hard not to sound british. But Minnie Driver sometimes made me cringe.
And this is totally off topic but you should check out the little storm brewing over at whedonesque. I happened by there this evening and saw a post about Marti Noxon being promoted to executive producer at Grey's. One poster stated their opinion on how they thought grey's would basically be going down the toilet now. And JW himself has broken his vow of silence to give a little bitch slap back and defend marti noxon somewhat. Now the original poster has come back to defend themselves against god himself (JW) *rolls eyes* and slap back. (by implying JW shouldnt have ran three shows at once!) Its quite funny to watch if, you know, you can get past the initial gag reaction after reading all the kiss ass posts!
