Drive-by posting: Whither Yahoo Groups?

People looking for Part 4/14 of Behold, Little Padawan! posted last night, please go here.

People who want to get their paws on Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant, the 1997 Live Recording with the Nixon story, please go here.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] bastardsnow has an interesting questions about the decline and fall of Yahoo Newsgroups as a communication medium for fandom. Drop by and give him an answer. I think it's an interesting discussion, to be honest.

ETA: The spammers appear to have found my journal. In the past 48 hours I have had anonymous comments selling cars, "love enhancement drugs," and even one person offering to help me get rich! Unh, the hell?

It appears to be showing up in my Music from the Cube posts, but a couple have shown up in Cuckoo in the Nest.

I can see the Music from the Cube posts, but Cuckoo? There must be a keyword in there somewhere that has made it a target.

Now I'm really happy I screen anonymice. Sometimes I miss an anonymice post and it never gets approved, but right now it's my only defense against spam-bots.

Do you have your journal set to be hidden from spiders and the like?

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
No. And I deliberately chose that option because I like being able to use LJSearch on my own LJ (it has saved my bacon more than once).

I know that this is where the double-edged sword for making that choice comes in, since it means anyone can pretty much find this LJ easily enough. It's still annoying.

But if you act now, you can add 4 whole inches!

And on that topic, I used to get junk email like that on my cell phone when I was overseas. It talked about increasing my bust size, but as I am male, I don't really want to be top-heavy.

It's true. Guys often like big boobs, just not on themselves

I prefer smaller-chested women as a rule. But your statement is certainly valid.

I have no preference as to size, merely how well they go with the person attached.

Spammers. They get everywhere. LJ is remarkably spam free for a variety of reasons (ever been caught by one of thier prove you're human tests? Annoying, but they seem to work. Plus the comment forms are configured weirdly so the bots don't know what to do.

The real spam to look out for is spam journals, was expecting them at some point and now they're with us.

The post selected seems to be completely random. And it doesn't really reflect either the post or your popularity really.

I screen nothing; LJ delinks all the urls that an anon posts, so they gain nothing (they're after google-juice), I just either delete or mock, depending on mood and content.

Yeah. I already got a spam journal (something about insurance rates). I banned it, deleted it, and reported it.

By the way, "the clock bonged its last bong" made me chuckle. I enjoyed your fanfic very, very much.
