crossoverman the genius behind Tommy Westphall's Mind — A Multiverse Explored:
This article by Dwayne McDuffie was published back in 2002, but I only just found it (which may explain why it's pointing to a site that's not yours).
Best. Quote. Evah! On the Tommy Westphall Universe:
Still, if you really want the final authority on just how much television Tommy Westphall continues to destroy thanks to the final scenes of St. Elsewhere, you must check out
crossoverman's fantastic page, Tommy Westphall's Mind — A Multiverse Explored.
This meta-filter entry is a good primer if you're still confused after reading the wikki entry on Tommy Westphall and
crossoverman's web site
As you can tell, I'm a huge fan of
crossoverman's work.

I don't suppose you have St. Elsewhere on tape or DVD? I've never seen it. *grin*

It's in my Netflix cue, but I'm going to one-disc-at-a-time so I can actually watch the DVDs I own.
And, hey! Congrats on getting things straightened out (I was hiding under a desk last night, so I didn't get to respond to your LJ). Heee! Guess it's all comin' soon.

Or maybe that's just me hoping I can get my laptop up and running on the Internet properly this evening. I definitely need to have that done before I hit the road.

The McDuffie article was one of our inspirations early on. And since then, many of the shows (if not all) he suggests would bring in whole lists of others - like Happy Days and Mary Tyler Moore - have actually been connected to Tommy's Mind as well!
The page he links to has been a source of some help across the years. Thom Holbrook is attempting to catalogue every crossover ever - so occasionally we'll find connections between his separate universes. We've helped him to clarify connections in the past, too. It's like doing a family tree!
Tom Fontana of St Elsewhere, Homicide, Oz and others was also quoted as saying he knew about some of these connections - but expected it would cover 90% of television. So he continues to make these little connections himself in his shows. We were also linked to in his blog a few years back!

Only one season of St. Elsewhere is out on DVD at the moment. The irony being, even I have seen very little of that show. I've constructed this whole fun theory around it's closing minutes and I really have little memory of the show myself. This whole thing was born in Homicide fandom back in Usenet days! That is to say pre-LJ, which is like the Jurassic period really :-)
Thanks for the linkage!
