It is completely apt that your icon features one of those badgers when commenting about this video. Hypnotizingly aimless things. I think I spent half a day just going badger badger badger when I first saw the thing.

You know, if they had shown Supes getting down with his bad disco self in "Superman Returns" that movie would have been improved 1000%.

I think someone over on scans daily said it best: "This is what would've happened if you had '70s-era Travolta playing Superman."

Oh god XD. And I say it as a semi-authority on the subject, as horrifyingly and hilariously mind numbing as that was, it isn't the worst the Bombay film industry has come up with. Thank you for sharing that...I think :/

I have an unreasonable love for Bollywood songs.

It could be because the Indian couple that owns the convenience store near me have these gorgeous voices. Sometimes I've gone in when business is slow and they're there singing Bollywood songs to each other while they're doing different things around the store.

Sadly, I can't sit through a whole Bollywood movie without company (I think it's the language barrier), but I've been known to sneak over to YouTube to check out the dance numbers.

*sigh*

I can get why musicals is a lamented lost art in American cinema.

Plus, when I was watching Michael Palin's Himalya, he stopped at a Bollywood studio set to interview one of the leading me. The answers this actor gave about the number of movies he puts out a year and the number of scenes in different movies he shoots in a single week reminded me of interviews with retired actors who used to be contract players for the Hollywood studios back in the golden age. Hell, the scurrying around the sets reminded me of archival footage from the Hollywood golden age.

We may not make them like that any more, but Bollywood does. :-)

It's also astounding that Bollywood is so freakin' huge all over the world, so huge that it puts Hollywood to shame. I don't think most Americans can even begin to grasp just how firm a hold Bollywood has on the international entertainment market.

Sorry. I'm totally fascinated by the mechanics of Bollywood because it's so like watching a living history project, only for real. It makes you wonder if Bollywood will eventually evolve along the same lines as Hollywood over time. It'll be fascinating to watch.

Oh, I do love the fact that hindi films, well, Indian films have the musical aspect. In the better movies, they carry the story and truly make sense rather than functioning as a comma in all the action. On the other hand, there are, well, the Superman Spiderwoman songs that are fascinating too, but in a totally different way.
Yes, the number of movies made each year is staggering. Apparently Greece has big love for Bollywood :) I feel annoyed every time people in India go into an insane tizzy whenever there's any talk of an Indian film having a shot at an Oscar, because really, there isn't any dire need for validation given the size, scope and variety of the film industry.
I don't think Bollywood will really change much, there are the newer groups of young directors who are trying to make it more streamlined, more of a professional unit rather than an artistic fair, but I feel it works either way. The industry has its own personality by now and I don't see it changing, maybe only extending sideways.
And speaking of Bollywood songs, if you are interested, I have a couple of songs that I uploaded for a friend on my journal. I don't know if you've heard of A.R.Rahman- he's an Indian music composer, mainly for films. The songs are from the movie Bombay (dealing with the 1995 Bombay riots, not the film industry :)), and I am in love with them. I recommend them to everybody I can and I have loads of downloads left on the songs. Please feel free to take or point people to if you like them, I like sharing the Rahman love. Let me know what you think if you do like them. They're about one entry down on the page.

I'll definitely let you know what I think. Truthfully, though, I'm an easy sell since I like most of the music. I'm woefully ignorant about the vast majority of it.

Although it's not nearly as shameful as my ignorance of blues and jazz. I only know the greats and the classics, but that's about it.

I especially like the dance sequence in the end. They looked like figure skaters.

I love it. I just trying to picture in my head the meeting to pitch the idea. "Okay, We have superman, then we have spiderwoman, and they dance." I just cries out for a Kevin Smith commentary.

It's fabulous in its own way, cheesy bluescreen and all.

Watched a doco on Bollywood the other night. Cracktastically good. And I love the fact that Bollywood's most famous soundtrack female singer is about 65 years old, complete with wrinkles and glasses and sings all the songs the young things meme to. Hee.

FYI, Craig Ferguson played a portion of this clip on The Late Late Show recently. I think it was sometime last week. So, maybe you have a future as a writer for a late-night talk show?
