More than one people enjoyed it, much as I find your Xander to be to the left of canon or my own personal fanom Xander.

A definite gut-punch. Love it. Succinct and yet powerful. I wish I could compress a story like this.

That was seriously twisted. I'm curious, did the light of the ax purge the evil from Xander's mind or was it something else?

There were a few places where I thought you rushed things a bit, but when you're writing something this dark that's completely understandable.

Very nice job showing Xander's disorientation and flashes of First induced feelings overlaying his own. Killing Spike was a scene that left me gasping with it's intensity. Just the sheer, determined brutality of it was amazing.

Buffy and Faith dying and Kennedy reveling in her newfound power, unaware of its source was a profound scene as well. Powerful story.

While Joss avoided the concept strenuously, save for the PTB over on Angel, I've always felt that there should be some sort of counterpoint to the First Evil. Nothing that acts directly, but the First handed it a tool, by opening sightless Xander up to external visions, and the PTB are pretty fond of the whole 'sit back and send mortals visions, let them sort it out' motif.

I definitely rushed it, since I was getting to the point where I was going to have to retell most of season seven at the rate I was going. I had to give Dawn, Anya, Giles, etc. majorly short shrift, and the Potentials were like faceless extras, at best. I decided in the end that the disjointed and interrupted nature of the narrative not only suited my own needs, it also oh-so-conveniently paralleled Xander's own fragmented mental state (the lazy writer rationalizes, hands waving furiously).

Yeah, that's the ticket! It was... deliberate! :)

Ooo. Good one with the PTB. I'm sheepish for not catching that right away. Your ending was also heartwrenching, since I see I neglected to mention that.

Those dreams in the hospital creeped me out enough that I considered taking a break. Then I wrote the bit where he's gone round the bend and is thinking about Faith, and his relationships with Cordy and Anya, and I had to walk away for a month.
