liz_marcs: Jeff and Annie in Trobed's bathroom during Remedial Chaos Theory (Xander Seek Reality)

Popping in with a couple of interesting links...

It's a pean to Edward James Olmos, but not for his role as Adama on Battlestar Galactica. The recent remake of Miami Vice has inspired Lance Mannion to recall Olmos's overhwhelming and grounding presence as Lt. Castillo in the televison series.

The RudePundit (as the name implies, most of the language in this blog is not worksafe) has returned to his his hometown roots in New Orleans. Today he kicked off his photo essay series on New Orleans One Year Later. You might recall that almost a year ago he went home for the holidays and documented in excruciating detail with pictures how the entire region is still in dire straights. (Please note that the Katrina-New Orleans links, IS WORKSAFE.)

I've been rather enjoying the long analytical pieces over at Billmon's The Whisky Bar on the Lebanon-Israeli situation as it unfolds. It's worth plopping down and going back through his archives to read everything on this. Agree with him or not, he does bring some interesting perspectives to the table.

However, if you really want to scare yourself silly, Sy Hersh has yet another disturbing article up looking at Lebanon-Israel as a proxy war for Iran-U.S. Yeah. Don't read before just going to bed. You'll just lose sleep over it. I hate the fact that Sy has such a good track record for these sorts of things. It makes it harder to ignore him.

Ummmm, not to be rude or anything, but, what?

I'm exactly sure what you're talking about here. I put up a couple of interesting links that I've found informative with no (or very little comment), and you're jumping up and down about it.

You jumped up and down about other links I've posted on the Israel-Lebanon dust-up in the past as well, for reasons I can't even begin to fathom. I can only assume that you're objecting because the commenters are not 100% in favor of Israel.

Billmon, Juan Cole at Informed Comment, and Sy Hersh are not anti-Israel. They all most certainly have had harsh words for the Hez and have most certainly condemned their terrorist acts. However, they are raising points and asking some very important questions that I think needs to be asked and raised.

Just waving your hand and shouting "terrorist" is akin to sticking your head in the sand. Like the IRA (now a legitimate political party!), they and Hamas are here, organized, and armed. They are not going to away, no matter how hard you wish.

I meant to say:

"I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about here. I put up a couple of interesting links that I've found informative with no (or very little comment), and you're jumping up and down about it."

I apologize for the typo because it most certainly leant an air to my reply that I didn't intend.

I don't recall if I saw this or read this -- yes, that's admission that I've read about Miami Vice -- but Olmos came in with the intention of getting Johnson angry at him. Not Crockett, Johnson. He came in about a third of the way into the first season, replacing a more standard police captain. They gave him a messy desk and he said no, Castillo would have a clean, orderly desk. There was a whole bunch of stuff in their first scene together that was just designed to get under Don Johnson's skin. The tension you saw between them was real. I like that. And Lance has it down. All the way down to Owen Wilson being perfect as Crockett.

Personally, I'd read it just for Olmos. He's always been one of those actors I found interesting beacuse, let's be honest, his face is fascinating to watch (and not just because of the scarring).

But that's very awesome of Olmos to pull his own "acting exercise" on Johnson. I guess he does somewhat the same thing on BSG, with the key difference being he's playing off of actors who frankly get off on that kind of thing.

There was one scene where Jamie Bamber (Apollo) and Olmos where supposed to be talking in a gym. Olmos looked at Bamber and basically asked him if he'd like to box while they did the scene. And then it turned into a real boxing match, while they were dong the scene. HEEEEE!

That's kinda in the BSG tradition. The actors on monitor duty were playing pong or other games when they were talking, thus pulling their attention away from acting against the other person and more interacting with the 'monitors', as they would be if they were really watching the skies for incoming Cylon raiders.

But knowing BSG was your first fandom, I'd guess you knew that.

Thanks for the links -- I read the Hersh article, may get to the others. I've been wanting some analysis of the Israel-Lebanon conflict.
