More making it quick...

*Ugh*

It's 11 o'clock. Why am I folding clothes.

Pleaselettheheatbreakhatetheheat.

Taking a quick spin on LJ before I go to bed:

First, a little guilt. I didn't congradulate [livejournal.com profile] butterflykiki for her Walk With Heroes win, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern in Mazatlan. Which is only one of my favorite ever Jonathan fics. Sorry dude! I didn't know you and "C.L. Kamnikar" were one and the same.

Belated congrats!

[livejournal.com profile] jennyo has a good rant about the "Culture of Nice." More debates! Yay! But um...you first. (check the coward here). Anyway, it's a good read and it's a good discussion.

[livejournal.com profile] nwhepcat is showing the Orpheus love in Lilac City...and if Xander runs into the First Slayer trying to rip his heart out during his side trip...dude, I am sooooo hiding under the bed.

And [livejournal.com profile] ludditerobot, I gotta start commenting more in your journal. I mean, serioiusly, Anonymous comments more than I do?

Some of the anonymous comments were you, so you are undercounted, but still....

Woo!

Howdy-Howdy!

Been a follower of Living History since about the turn of the year but, unfortunately, I keep getting sent all around the world with barely a chance to breathe, let alone read all the fanfic I want to. Taking a little vacation right now and I finally caught myself up on the show, along with the Walking With Heroes awards and your other stories. I must say, I am quite impressed. Every once in a while I run across a story that is good, but yours in one of only about three that I can count as being good, if ya know what I mean.

Most of the time I just browse some fanfic sites about once a month and spend a weekend catching up on old stories and grabbing new ones, but yours is one of the first where I actually check the site multiple times in a day to see if anything new has come out. Good shit, really. I want to do a full review, but that would probably take me a week and make me go over each chapter one at a time to talk about all the nougat-y goodness that spills out of your balls of yarn. Suffice to say that you deal with the shit of the series instead of just writing it off in a few chapters, brilliantly characterize the people as if they were people instead of characters on a PG-13 TV show, and don't let things conclude in a 'story arc' or an 'episode', but instead let things run, grow, and fester into a wonderful analogy of life, while at the same time touching all the genres of Buffydom and keeping to the original spirit that Joss tried to instill into the show...you know...before certain people got better control of the show.

Ok, that sentence was a little wrong...and probably deserving of a red pen, but, hey, I write what I feel. I like you stuff and, through your 'faves' page I have been brought to a nice little chunk of very decent fanfic that I never even knew existed. Thanks for that and thanks for giving my faith in Buffy a must-needed vitamin boost. Makes me want to dust off my own fanfic and try to write something. Oh, that brings me to a question: Can you point me to a good place for Buffy/Buffyfic discussion and possibly a place to do a little Beta-Reader recon?

Thanks for listening. Hope to see more from ya in the near future, at least, before I get shipped out again. =)

Plok

Oh, wow. I simply don't know what to say except a blushing thank you.

And I certainly would encourage anyone to give fanfic writing a try. Part of it is because you get to meet some really great people. Part of it is because you get to try your own hand at writing (or in my case, writing something different than what I write 9 to 6).

Plus, for me anyway, it's the fun of puzzling things out: what's hard and fast in canon; what's not hard and fast; and how can you work both to write the story you want.

As for interaction and how to find resources and betas for Buffy-related fanfic, I can suggest some Web sites to get you started:

*Buffy Guide has a really good episode guide that's extremely detailed, so if you need to know what happened when and how it happened for your story, this is the place to go

*BtVS Writers' Guild is a nice catch-all fanfic writing resource. It includes character specific "zones," a list of beta readers willing to help out, and links to helpful sites.

*Two Demons, a Girl, and a Batcave is a frighteningly detailed site that includes RPG equivalents and a detailed history across television, comic books, and books for all the characters. Scroll down and you'll find it on the right side of the page. There are two separate RPG lists for Nightspawn and Champions.

Beyond that, you'd probably need to do research on the individual characer or characters on the show.

Again, thank you for the FB. I hope the above links help.

You rock, and gracias for the pimping. :> And hey, wouldn't you keep your identity on the down-low if your last name was as unique as mine?

I adore Lilac City like an adorable thing. It's getting especially shivery right now. Waiting patiently for the next bit. (Kindasorta patiently, anyway)

*sends you the rain in Denver to break the East Coast heat*

Also? Loved the last bit of "Living History" - Catherine freaking out is always amusing. And Dawn being a voice of sanity is also quite fun.
