EEEEEEPPPPPP!!!! WriterCon

Well....

I've done it.

I paid for [livejournal.com profile] writercon and for my single occupancy room at the Imperial Palace.

So, yeah, after sneaking up on the idea for a month, I'm going.

So I managed to book membership and room at lunch today. The nice con organizers have my PayPal payment.

Then before I could change my mind, I called the nice Imperial Palace people and made reservations for check in on Thursday, July 29 and check out for Sunday, August 1.

Now I just have to figure out how to book me a flight.

Which should be fun since Boston is basically shut down that weekend because of the Democratic National Convention. (Right...call airport limo while I'm at it...)

Now it is time for me to beg LJ people out there (please see me bat my big brown eyes) to not only keep me from hiding behind a potted plant, but to maybe hang.

My thought is you take other transportation to a semi-nearby airport and go from there to LV, that way avoiding all the people flying into Logan with donkeys on their hats. Then again, since you're going out when everyone else is going in, you might get a nice, nearly-empty flight out.

Who am I kidding? They don't make flights like that to Vegas. That's part of the reason I dread visiting my parents there.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2004-05-28 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Flights to Vegas are the worst. I've gone on a couple of business trips there and they absolutely drive me bonkers. It's like being packed into a sardine can with the AARP crowd.

Of course, this time I won't be tippy-tapping on a laptop all the way, which always gets a glare from the people crunched into the seats around me.

But the flights back aren't usually that bad. Usually I get a row of seats all to myself. YAY!

I took my wife and two kids (3 and almost six months) to Vegas, and it wasn't the AARP crowd, it was drunken stupid idiots. Then again, this was a Christmas visit, and that's getting pretty close to New Years, which is a whole other crowd. SRO there, SRO back. Even if I could afford plane tickets, I doubt I'd go back often.

Squeeee! I'll see you there, chica!

Do like I do. Pretend you're not shy. It's how I keep my brain from exploding in such circumstances.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2004-05-28 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I usually try to do that.

Thing is? It sometimes backfires. This is how I wound up being volunteered to canvas for Kerry in New Hampshire in a couple of weeks.

Aw. I wouldn't worry about it. :) It's writercon, not Are?You?Hot? It'll be a piece of cake.

HEEEEE!

Your icon cracks my shit up. Sorry. I just had to mention.

[identity profile] autobadgirl.livejournal.com 2004-05-26 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
YAAAAAY!! I'll see you there! No plant hiding for you my dear!

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2004-05-28 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Heee! Look forward to meeting you.

Wheeee!! You're coming!! I knew you would!

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2004-05-28 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Weak. Weak like veal.

Plus, after a few months on LJ, I'm kinda curious about what everyone looks like.

You may want to consider the emergency plan of switching your name badge for someone else's...

Good luck! You'll be fine!

If you don't want to deal with the insanity of Logan, I heavily recomend going out of Providence. It's further away from where you live, but if Boston is going to be as fun as it sounds at that time, it might be a lot faster still.

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2004-05-28 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Like I told Maystone below...getting an Airport Limo to Logan might be the best option. I actually like the airport in RI and have flown out of there are few times, but the thought of driving up to the Boston area along 95 after getting back from Las Vegas? Not giving me happy thots.

well, i don't have a room yet (eeeeeeep) but if you'll forgive me the fact i'm only 19 (shhh. don't tell anyone.) i'll hide behind the potted plant with you.

i'll even bring chocolate and pringles :)

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2004-05-28 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Given that I just found out that I'm supposed to be Lucille Ball, maybe we can do the chocolate thing and walk out with chipmunk cheeks.

Hey! It'll at least be an icebreaker, right?

[identity profile] ludditerobot.livejournal.com 2004-05-28 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
There is a touristy chocolate factory in Vegas. I can't recall the place, but I've been there before. It might be a good way to set up a good Waaaah!

You could also see if there's anything flying out of Worcester. To be honest, I usually fly out of Bradley in Hartford, because it's just so much easier to get around that airport.

Have fun!

[identity profile] liz-marcs.livejournal.com 2004-05-28 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The Worcester Airport is closed down to commercial airlines last I checked. (My parents keep me aprised of these things).

Providence is attractive as is Manchester, but the thought of driving home from either place after flying back from Vegas is kinda giving me the willies.

I just might go for an Airport Limo instead since Waltham isn't all that far from Boston. I just have to book flights to Vegas first before making a reservation.
