eFiction Sites Are Being Hacked; Trojan Virus Warning

All achives that use eFiction as an automated archive, please be warned that a Russian hacker is specifically targeting your sites.

According to estepheia, the hacker in question registers on your site as an author called Shader (although this is subject to change, I'm sure) and then uploads a Trojan virus that completely kills the archive.

Authors take note of this: you might be getting frantic emails from the owners of killed archives.

ALERT FOR mara_sho: This shader dude is on I Need A Parrot and he joined about the same time as the other targeted archives. If there is anyone in Mara's neck of the woods, let her know her site may have a problem.

I just told her through the comments to the last post she made and posted this to my LJ too. Hope you can get through to her email. I know the archive has been having some severe problems in recent months with retarded adolescent behavior hackers and she was wondering about a couple of glitches that Kayla Shay pointed out to her a couple of days back.

Sounds like it. Other eFiction archive hosts have noticed the same glitchy behavior over the past two days.

Thanks for the head's up Liz. Yup, he was there, yes he'd hacked in some random php and JavaScript files along with a complete subdomain which included a virus. They're all gone from the site now but I've switched off submissions until I can go through it all with a fine-tooth comb.

Grrr.
