Despite all the faux-academic trappings, the authors somehow managed to misspell aluminum in the heading. Just because the piece is a parody (or at least sarcastic) shouldn't mean that grammar doesn't count, young men. I would've expected better from M.I.T. students.

Depends what side of the pond you live on. I've always found the American pronunciation weird whenever I hear it on TV/Film.

So I guess it depends on where those M.I.T. super-genius-types were originally from... though after looking at the webpage in detail, it gives 2 occurences of the spelling aluminium and 3 of aluminum so maybe they had their own arguments of which was correct too.
