Characters Gone Wild!

God damnit! Nooooo!

*tries desperately to yank AlternaXander back from the edge*

Nononononono you miserable sunuvabitch. Do. Not. Go. There.

*yank-yank-yank*

This is called: Point of no return, you bastard!

I did not expect that from you. Nope. Not at all.

*attemps to drag character back from the edge*

If Xander even hears a peep about what you just said, he will go friggin' nuclear. There will be no pieces of you left to be found. They might find a tooth. Maybe some strips of burned skin, but not much else.

Be vewy, vewy glad that he's fighting for his life in a hospital room otherwise, you? You would be dead. Really. And he wouldn't feel guilty about it, either.

It's official. I've been writing Water Hold Me Down for too damn long.

*breaks out flamethrower and menaces AlternaXander with it*

Needless to say, the next part is gonna be a leeeeetle delayed. Something tells me that I really need to look at this part because...ummmmm....

Yeah.

Apologies to everyone on the FList for being scarce. Who'd figure that the next part, what was supposed to be a simple linking part, would get so badly out of hand. And here I was worried about the part after this.

Yeah. Shows you what I know.

I mean, Xander has his flaws, but daaaaaaammmmmmmnnnnnnnn...even I'm not too sure about this.

His wife has been magicking behind his back and she whacked his daughter upside the head with a marble rolling pin. His secret life turned out to not be particularly secret, and something wants "turned" to be a personal description. His home is now a known target for the bogies. And annoying people from his past have come to take his baby away. Only need to add business problems or, I dunno, the news that Anya cheated on him, and you'd get complete personal destruction.

Personal destruction?

Ooooooo, yeah. Already there. Without finding out about the cheating.

Saving that piece of information for when he's holding a firearm?

To be a real chicken about it, the payoff is what it ultimately does to Anya and, to a lesser extent, Xander. The payoff is ultimately between the two of them near the end of the story, because the damage that was done did means Xander's stuck without a leg to stand on with Anya.

You might say the damage is more insidious than the obvious.

AlternaXander is going to have his hands full enough rooting through the wreckage and trying to salvage something out of this, especially since he effectively fires the killing blow in the next part without knowing what happened.

Xander, at least, remembers what he could be like, so you can bet he's going to cluck like a chicken and say nothing. I know a lot of people really disliked Xander for his axe-wielding ways post-wedding, but I thought it was in character and had zero problems with it. I didn't think he was at all right for threatening Anya and Spike and then getting into that screaming smack-down in the middle of the street, but his motivations made perfect sense.

After this part, Anya is worried about keeping her skin intact from enemies foreign and domestic. So I'm 99% sure she's not telling AlternaXander either. However, I did get convinced to change my mind on one point, which means I have to re-write the end, but I think it's worth it. (Yes, the end 'tis written already!) We'll see.

Remind me to ask you for a copy of a past outline, just to see how detailed it gets.

*eep*

I've come to very reluctantly sympathy for alternaXander. After all, he is (a) Xander.

So, here's wishing you best of luck with your character wrangling.

It's taking some shaving and wrangling, but I think I can keep him from losing complete sympathy over his meltdown.

And at least I have S2 canon support from When She Was Bad to cover me if worst comes to worst.

:Sniff: I hope you can make Alt-Xander behave soonish because of LUUUUUUUV this story and I MISS IT.

I feel like Charles Dickens' fans *back in the day* Yo!

I little tweakin' hear and there. It's not as bad as I thought, but it needs to be smoothed out.

Definitely Friday. Maybe even tomorrow. I'll have to see.

[identity profile] jgracio.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, any hope of you releasing an outline of the story, so we lesser writers may learn? Hum?

And is it cheating when it is with essentially another him? I mean after Toth Xander would have a pretty strange outlook on the whole thing... but since Alterna!Xander doesn't think of Xander as being him, it wouldn't be pretty.

Ans what's up with the characters going against the writers wishes? It's like an epidemic or something, damned characters!

I so want to know what AlternaXander said, now!

I really enjoy this this story - can't wait for the next chapter.

Tantalizing pieces you're dangling in front of our noses. And isn't it annoying when you can't et your characters to behave? The balance between making the story go where you want it to and keeping it feeling real is a difficult one to find sometimes.

Meeep!

*waits with bated breath*

Next on Fox! When Xanders go Wild!

I normally love characters that end up writing themselves, but it can be annoying when you've got a plot resolution in mind and they stubbornly hare off in another direction...
