Testing One-Two-Three

So, Dreamwidth is testing real-time cross posting.

Please let me know if you can see this post on:

  • LiveJournal
  • InsaneJournal

Hopefully I'll be able to sit down this week and make Dreamwidth readable (the current style I've got here hurts my eyes).

Then I have to decide how I'm going to interplay LiveJournal, InsaneJournal, and Dreamwidth. Because I'm not entirely sure I want to treat them all the same way.

(I'm also on JournalFen, but I only use that to lurk, read, and respond to the service there...however cross-posting to JournalFen is possible.)

ETA: I'm all set now with the comments. For more information, go here.

Plus, I'm now testing the ability to edit this entry on all three journals by simply opening up the DW post and "crossposting" the edits to all three journals. Let's see if it works. Wheeee!

ETA Electric Boogaloo: Holy Shit! Cross-posting edits while in DW only works! This is the schnitzel!

I concur, I suspect DW and LJ will be slightly different for me while I find my feet using DW, then at some point DW'll become my 'home', but with occasional LJ only stuff.

BTW, they've really sorted out the customisation system for styles now, you can completely change the colour scheme really easily.

Best layout to do that with I think is the basic core2—it's only listed under 'all' and comes without a colour scheme, I'll be hacking my own later this week, if you want me to knock you something up let me know what sort of thing you want?

That's what I've done, I've volunteered to do a breakdown of the CSS classes and IDs as well, that may or may not happen depending on other factors (like the appeal of the fresh bread I've just taken out of the oven).

But if it does happen, I'll make sure I post it, hacking CSS is so easy everyone should know how to do it, so I need to figure out how to explain it to everyone.

Sigh- I am still so HTML 1.0 that I've barely scratched the surface of CSS. Don't even wave PHP at me, I might scream and run away. I do want to learn more, though, but this is one of those Bones McCoy moments:

"Damnit Jim, I'm a Content Provider/ Hardware Technician/ Internet Generalist, not a Webmaster!"

That's what I get for not keeping up... :-(

CSS is remarkably easy once you've had the grammar explained. Very basic idea, say you want all your [blockquote] tags to have a grey background. You go to the CSS edit box and put this in:

blockquote {
background: #555555
}

That's it. Everything else is detail. The other thing to learn is that anything you post can be given an ID or a CLASS. IDs are unique once per page things, CLASSes are as many times as you like.

For example, each entry in your current (negatives) layout is given the class .entry, whereas the column it's in is called #entries (# denotes an ID, . denotes a class).

So if you wanted to change the background colour to a pale grey, you go to the CSS box and enter either:

.entry {
background: #aaaaaa;
}

or
#entries {
background: #aaaaaa;
}

depending on which bits you want done. Once you've got the hang of that, the rest is just detail. But you can do some rather nifty tricks once you've got the hang of it, nice curved borders and similar are amongst my favourites.

Does that make sense?

I'm here now, too. I followed you here, and have imported my LJ account. For some reason, though your name liz_marcs.livejournal.com on the "people" list on my DW profile page is crossed out. No one else's is. Your DW account is listed under "Other Subscriptions" without being crossed out. I don't know what it means, but I thought I should inform you, just in case it matters.
