*stabs Pit of Voles*

For the first time since January when I posted Cuckoo in the Nest, I decided to actually *gasp* post a story to The Pit of Voles.

So, with some small trepidation, I decided to send in Ishmael Sings of the White Whale in the Angel section of the Pit.

Ohmydeargawd! WtF is up with the piss-poor interface and formatting? You can't even put in extra line spaces now because the interface strips those puppies right out! And those stupid page breaks...arrrrgggghhhh!

This looks like mega crap! It hurts my freakin' eyes!

And yes, I did go through and put in as much formatting as I could on the story. Every additional line break I attempted to put in via HTML or in RTF mode just got stripped every time I saved. Does everyone get stuck with this crap? Even people who pay? Because, yikes! That is one ugly-ass interface that just really...it makes our stories look baaaaaaad.

Plus, it's difficult to read the Pit stories onscreen.

Okay, I have to go back and do some actual work now. Friday doldrums, man...

I hate to say it, but the posting interface does (eventually) grow on you a bit, if you're using it regularly. The stuff they won't let you post, such as asterisks as section dividers, is a real pain, but there are substitutes that do work, such as a row of dots. Or put in a centred row of asteristks and it'll put in two breaks but strip out the actual asterisks.

I'm just a little floored by the lack of ability to put in additional lines. I'm not talking a million lines here, just an extra line above and beneath the HTML lines they let us insert.

*headdesk*

Is there some "easy" way of doing it? I usually upload HTML docs of stories. Maybe this isn't the way to go.

It may be possible to do it with their editing mode, but I think that only works if you have Internet Explorer and a whole bunch of security violations installed, and I really don't want to risk it. But as I said, putting in a line consisting of a row of asterisks - may not even need to be centred, I haven't tried - does seem to result in a double paragraph break.

Yeah, I've no idea why they took the line spaces out, and you used to be able to make the text bigger. No more.

Great ain't it?

I remember once, long ago, back when the world was young, fanfiction.net was a wondrous place of creativity. Then a shadow passed over the land, blocking all adult content, 'streamlining' the kingdom. It was a loss, but none knew just how dire the tidings of things to come...

Ya, the place now sucks balls of Babe, The Big Blue Ox variety. The place has just gotten so un-damned-wieldly. It is still 10% good and 90% ass, as it always has been, but there is a huge difference between 10% of 10k stories and 10% of 500k stories. That is an awful lot of wading to get to anything good unless prompted by someone who has already been there and is able to give you the treasure map which looks as if it had been drawn by Tardy the Turtle.

Still glad you are posting your splenderfadibulastic stories over there, as it automatically ups the quality of the site when something of your pen has been archived there. Seriously, I love your shit. Gonna havta make sure I take copies of it with me when I go back. Speaking of, noticed you posted to my Lj. Much <3 for saying 'Hi'. To answer your question, I spend half of my life in Qatar. If you look at a map, it is the spit of land that makes it look like Saudi Arabia is giving the finger to Iran. Nice place, really, just would rather be home more at times.

I had often wanted to post to f.net, but changed my mind after seeing how much it has degraded over the years....I didn't even know about the formatting issues. I still wear at my screen whenever Word decided to auto-format something I am typing. Even if it is making the correct suggestion, I am often of the mind to punch my computer, right in the ovaries!

Must cut this short before my rambling gets worse. Love your shit. Keep writing. You'll see me soon enough.

Cheers!
Plok
