Liz's defense of the tools of the English Language

Gaa, I had written a decent post about why I love your posts about writing, but LJ ate it.

Your article, which is what this is, is informative and entertaining. It's edutainment! (okay, where are the puppets?)

I think your categorization of the two mind sets in fandom does explain the root of some hurt and confusion. Which confuses me a bit because one of the things I love most about writing, and what your fiction does so well, is the awareness of a point of view different than one's own. Yup, the writing as mental puzzle approach. But, realizing that someone's start point is different would do a lot to calm hurt feelings. We share a love, enough so to dedicate time and effort to explore the minutiae of our hobby. Fanfic should be a celebration, even if we all take different tacks.

I do fall on the more 'pro' side, as I desire clarity in my writing. I figure it's a worthy goal which drabbling helps me achieve. Of course my beta [livejournal.com profile] ponders_life does point out when my brain skips track and my writing doesn't follow! Writercon did re-enforce that I want to take this hobby seriously and to be considerate of my (assumed) readers but making them think about my ideas, and not puzzle out what I'm trying to say!

Thank you for posts like this. It was great to meet you at writercon. Maybe we'll do the same next summer?
