I find your process fascinating to read about, both the remix element and the general plotting of things.

I've concluded I need to see Dead Like Me to really get the fullness of the story, so I'm pleased to know it's on Hulu. It'll give me some fabulous post-Writercon watching (and then reading).

because someone I had remixed in a past round had complained in her LJ that I had chosen an older story from a fandom she no longer was involved in

I do find this an odd reaction from your remixee. While I think it's natural to want to enjoy the remixed version of our stories, Remix is not a story exchange/gift to the remixee.

The first year I participated, my remixer picked the one story I'd written in the SG1 fandom, a drabble to boot. I don't really think of myself as a part of SG1 fandom. I watch the show, I occasionally think, "I wonder if someone's done a story about X", but I don't really read much or otherwise participate in the fandom. But that said, I loved the remix. She took that short drabble and created an amazing story with layers. The only thing I felt bad about was having a flist that wasn't very SG1ish, so I couldn't pimp it very far.
