I thought that userroniliquidity in particular did a good job clarifying my thoughts on the issue when responding to usertablesaw: there's a lot of value in speaking up and confronting these issues publicly in an articulate way. In fact, having to articulate why one doesn't agree can deepen one's understanding and commitment to one's principles.
I learned a great deal from the really good comments on that post. That being said, there were some 'OH JOHN RINGO NO' moments in the comment threads too.
