I thought I'd add that XJournal on the Mac (http://connectedflow.com/xjournal/) has a straighforward "download" button in the History window that backs up your entire journal locally. As you can well imagine, I've got mine running as I type this.

There's an old computer-geek maxim I've read in many places and quoted at many people: Only back up what you want to keep ;)
