"Now we come to the obligatory T&A portion of our ABC program."
Worst scene ever (almost). Back in the day, I called ABC "the trashy disco network." Unfortunately, almost *everything* seems to be trash today, so I'm not sure we've advanced in that regard.
"Maren Jensen, who totally gets no love from fans for her portrayal of Athena, made the complaint. It makes me very sad that she wasn't a better actress, because it's pretty clear that she has a brain."
Yeah, she was bright. It just never showed up in her acting. Either she never could act at all and that's why the writers gave her felgercarb, or she could act better than that and was being awful in protest of the badness being given to her.
"I wish I could say it was some damn fine acting, but going by the actor commentary in 'Saga,' it's not so much acting and is more "true life." "
That's funny -- I remember being told by a BG fanzine runner that, in real life, Richard Hatch was more like Starbuck (played around) and Dirk Benedict was more like Apollo (responsible). So that wasn't true? Benedict was the one who married, though it didn't work out, and Hatch seems to have lived like a nomad, always on the move for years (conventions and motivational talks without end).
"[...] Athena was a viper pilot. Not someone who was qualified to fly a viper in a pinch, but an honest to-the-Lords-of-Kobol viper pilot. Apollo even agreed with that assessment."
I prefer how she was written in the book version of this ep -- as a no-nonsense pilot who was, in fact, participating in training the newbies. Too bad she wasn't someone I could care about in the actual *series*.
"The desperate need to up Adama's meds. I hear from Laura that chamalla is the way to go here"
Adama on chamalla? Commander Moses, the manic-depressive, on chamalla? Noooo, don't do that to us!
