Here from crack_van, (well, actually just reminded to give feedback by crack_van,) and I wanted to say how impressed I was with this. You've captured Sam's voice so well, and the backstory you give him is just perfect. (And the way the end echoes the beginning is chilling in the best possible way.) I love all the little details you've worked in, like Sam thanking Artemis for a successful hunt, and how he and Tyrol are just noticeably faster and stronger than everyone else. And this line in particular:
The very thought brings him to the edge of tears. He tells himself that it’s because his hopes have been dashed, rather than a hint that on some level he actually feels bad that the Skinjob is reaching for something that it’ll never achieve.
just made my foreshadowing-loving heart happy. Love the interaction with Ellen - and how tragic and believable that she'd be moved to try to help him get his wife out of prison! - and BOOMER. (Heh, I loved your characterization of her, because I've definitely had thoughts similar to Sam's there, though I do of course feel horrible for her,) and Sam's dream where he sees Kara as a crow, fighting her imprisonment the way she did in canon, only accusing him - just... wow. All of this is just so skillfully done; I even found myself getting really invested in Sam's search for Kara even though I knew it was doomed, that's how thoroughly I was in his perspective.
Reading this makes me wish the show had picked up on the 'Cylon Civil War' aspect of the Dylans, instead of just the angst of being found out. Fingers crossed for the second half!
