Your theory on why Giles delivered the folder works for me, too. :-)
Seriously, I've told other people that the red bits are just what I thought at the time I wrote it, but that what other people see are equally legit because, really, it's not a radical departure from the text.
I mean, hell, I didn't even pick up that Tony dismissed Willow right at the outset and dissed her in little ways whenever her name was brought up and she's the one who turns around and bites him in the ass, but you saw that. Now I can't help but see it because, you're absolutely right, that pattern is right in there.
See? This is why I love good FB. Sometimes people see things that I completely miss. :-)
Frankly, Xander has every right to be slightly selfish in this case because it has become a matter of his emotional and psychological well-being and he should put himself and his future happiness first. God knows Tony and Jessica won't. If that means putting the issue to rest once and for all, and doing it through an intermediary, than that's what he's gotta do. He's lucky that Giles holds him in high enough regard that he's willing to go out of his way to delivery the file.
Glad you enjoyed the commentary. I was a little leery of posting it to be honest.
