My sympathy is with Xander as well, although he definitely stepped over a line threatening to kill Anya. However, it's also perfectly in character. In 'When She Was Bad,' he very coldly threatened to kill Buffy if anything happened to Willow and Buffy was taken aback by the threat because she knew he meant it.

The marriage was over for Xander the moment he found out about the rolling pin. The marriage was over for Anya when Xander basically says he should've listened to the visions. That doesn't mean they're not going to try to make it work for a little while, but it's now too much for the marriage to take.

As for Xander stepping up to the plate: he's always done that with regards to his life in his new town. However, he's at least going to start questioning his motivations for doing it, since they're not 100% pure.

As for the poleaxe, yeah, it changes his view of our Xander, but not for the better. Any conversation that needs to be had, it'll be because our Xander pushed the issue. Other Xander still avoidy boy.
